Chinese automaker BYD is making waves in the global automotive scene as two of its vehicles, the Seal and the Dolphin, are included in the top finalists for the 2024 World Car Awards.
BYD Seal
The BYD Seal or Atto 4 in other markets is among the top three finalists in the 2024 World Car of the Year. The BYD Seal is swimming alongside rivals such as the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30 for the said accolade. Interstingly, all cars listed as the top three finalists for the 2024 World Car of the Year are electric vehicles, which shows that the global automotive industry is shifting to a new dawn of mobility.
BYD Dolphin
The BYD Dolphin is another finalist in the World Car Awards, and it is among the top three cars vying for the 2024 World Urban Car. Of note, BYD is the only Chinese automaker included in the final list. The Dolphin is set to duke it out with the Lexus LBX and the Volvo EX30–yes, the EX30 has also been shortlisted in the said category.
The Volvo EX30 made it to the top finalist in three categories of the 2024 World Car Awards, which also includes being listed as the top World Electric Vehicle along with the BMW i5 and the Kia EV9.
Ford Bronco
Meanwhile, Ford is the only American car brand that was included in the 2024 World Car Awards. The Ford Bronco made it to the top three finalists for the World Car Design of the Year alongside the Ferrari Purosangue and the Toyota Prius.
A jury of more than 100 automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle. From an initial list of 70 eligible vehicles across all categories, the World Car Awards’ jurors first voted to establish a shortlist of 10 finalists for World Car of the Year and five for each of the other categories, except Design.
After that, the jurors evaluated and scored those finalists on eight separate parameters, based on their own test drive experiences, to determine the top three in the world.
