The 2023 Hyundai Creta managed to get five out of five stars from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). The subcompact crossover Creta is among the first Hyundai models that underwent the new ASEAN NCAP assessment protocol.
ASEAN NCAP - Hyundai Creta
The more stringent assessment protocol set by the ASEAN NCAP was not a problem for the Hyundai Creta. It performed well in the test as it obtained an overall score of 75.78 points, enough to earn a five-star safety rating.
The Creta scored 34.72 points for the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category. ASEAN NCAP’s frontal impact test showed that the Creta provided good protection to occupants while the driver’s lower legs received adequate protection during the test.
Hyundai’s subcompact crossover achieved 15.56 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP). When it comes to Safety Assist (SA) category, the Creta posted 14.08 points. The vehicle’s Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Collision Warning System, and Lane Keep Assist, contributed to the Creta’s SA score. Of note, the said safety features are available in the top-spec Hyundai Creta variant in the Philippines.
Lastly, the Creta scored 11.42 points for Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category. The crossover’s Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist played a major role in this category. The ASEAN NCAP deemed that the said feature functioned according to its standard. The Creta’s High Beam Assist also contributed to the overall points in the MS category. Again, those features are equipped in the PH-spec top-of-the-line Hyundai Creta.
Other safety features found on the top-spec Creta in the local market are the following: dual airbags, anti-lock braking system, stability control, hill start assist, forward collision avoidance assist, rear camera, tire pressure monitoring system, among others.
The 2023 Hyundai Creta is available in four variants in the Philippines with a starting price of Php 998,000 while the top-spec trim retails at Php 1,332,000. It comes with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that delivers 113 hp and 144 Nm of torque. The entry-level model uses a six-speed manual transmission, while the rest has an IVT, Hyundai’s version of the continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Aside from the Creta, the all-new Stargazer was also pitted to the ASEAN NCAP’s safety test. Unlike its subcompact crossover sibling, the 2023 Hyundai Stargazer fell short of getting a five-star rating. The ASEAN NCAP gave a four-star safety rating to the Stargazer, yielding an overall score of 66.48 points.
The Stargazer is a seven-seater MPV that goes up against the likes of the Honda BR-V, Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Avanza, among others.
