Honda Motor Co., Ltd., in partnership with the Japanese Red Cross Society, announced that it will donate 1-million euros (or around Php 57.3 million) to Ukraine in response to the humanitarian crisis amid the invasion.
Red Cross continues to support Ukraine amid the crisis
The donation will be used by the Japanese Red Cross Society as humanitarian support to the people and neighboring areas who are facing extraordinary difficulties. It will also be used to support the relief activities in countries receiving refugees from Ukraine.
More than 2.5 million Ukrainians have already fled their country since the start of the Russian invasion. It is considered the fastest-growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II. According to reports, the number of refugees can go up to four million if Russia continues to intensify its military efforts in Ukraine.
With Honda’s humanitarian support, refugees can somehow be relieved from the alarming situation. European officials are currently working on a system as to how they should address the refugee crisis. Factors such as visa requirements are being carefully studied by the government.
The Japanese automaker wishes for peace globally
Honda has also suspended its export operations in Russia since March 2. According to the company, business-related transactions were becoming a lot more challenging due to the disconnection of the SWIFT banking system in Russia. Both motorcycle and automobile exports have been halted, with no recent announcement regarding its resumption.
It is still unclear as to when will the invasion end. But thanks to all the support Ukraine has been receiving around the world including Honda’s P57.3-million donation, Ukrainians can stand up on their feet stronger. The donations should provide basic humanitarian needs food, clothing, medicine, among others.
The Japanese marque expressed that it sincerely wishes that the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict will come to an end as soon as possible. With that, ‘peace will be restored all around the world.’
