This CR-V took a dive into the dark side.

In Thailand, Honda has recently released the CR-V Black Edition. And as the name implies, it’s a version of the well-loved crossover that went to the dark side. Of note, it is based on the Thai-spec 2.4-liter CR-V variant, which isn’t sold here in the Philippines.

The Honda CR-V Black Edition for Thailand

As it says on the tin, the CR-V Black Edition is almost entirely black except for its emblem and lights. The rest of the exterior bears a blacked-out grille, a set of black 17-inch tires, black door handles, everything.

This is also the first time that the CR-V is kitted out with black-colored roof rails. Normally, these are silver in color. And of course, the CR-V Black Edition is only available in Black Pearl.

Inside the CR-V Black Edition

In keeping with the theme, the interior also gets an entirely black palette. Present are black wood accents, piano black trims, and black leather for the seats. The Thai-spec CR-V that the Black Edition is based on also gets a powered panoramic sunroof and wireless smartphone charging, as well as a seven-inch head unit with Apple CarPlay.

As mentioned, the CR-V Black Edition uses a 2.4-liter turbodiesel mill that isn’t available in our market. It is significantly more powerful than the Philippine-spec 1.6-liter variants, as it can produce up to 170 horsepower and 224 Nm of torque. It also uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT), though it doesn’t get all-wheel-drive like the top-of-the-line Philippine-spec CR-V SX 1.6-liter version

The trim piece between the taillights holding the emblem is also silver colored

The Honda CRV 2021 price Philippines tag for the CR-V Black Edition in Thailand, if converted to the local currency, sits at around Php 2.2 million. So yes, it is similarly priced with the CR-V SX. Do note though that if it gets sold here, the said price might differ a bit due to varying tax rates, import fees, and whatnot.

So, do you like the idea of driving a totally blacked-out CR-V?
