The global reveal of the all-new Honda Civic Type R is just around the corner. So much so that Honda decided to take the next-gen model for a spin on public roads in Japan.

やっぱり、FK8の熟成型とはいえ、全く違ったエクステリアのデザイン性です。

FK7 Honda captured the moment and posted the video on its Twitter account. It shows two units of the all-new Civic Type R wrapped primarily in red camouflage. The account shared its excitement with its followers, saying that it can’t wait to post a test drive of the upcoming hot hatch.
Not a lot of new design details can be seen in the 30-second video. It still features the same front-end silhouette as the 11th-gen Civic sedan, while the rear end looks similar to the one in the Civic Hatchback. Moreover, the triple exhaust setup and rear wing add sportiness to the finish.
Reports suggest that the all-new Civic Type R is using the same 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine with few engine tweaks to improve performance. The engine is said to produce 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Upgrades such as reducing the weight and increasing the rigidity have been integrated.

The upgrades are enough for the Japanese hatch to set a new lap record at the Suzuki Circuit, making it the track’s fastest front-wheel-drive vehicle. It bested the lap record of the outgoing Civic Type R in its Limited Edition form. This should be something that fans can look forward to in the new model.
Another exciting feat of the hot hatch is that it will be available with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Since its introduction in 1997, the model is only offered in a manual transmission. Honda said that the decision to introduce a two-pedal driving experience was taken into account to expand the model’s reach.
The all-new Honda Civic Type R is expected to make its premiere this month, with no exact date specified.
