The all-new Type R is looking quite promising.

The highly-anticipated launch of the all-new Honda Civic Type R is on a high especially considering the success delivered by the 11th-gen Civic compact sedan. Now, the Japanese marque has cranked up the excitement for the upcoming hot hatch with its new lap record at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan.

During the final performance testing and evaluation, the all-new Honda Civic Type R lapped the Suzuka Circuit’s 5.8-km figure-8 configuration in 2:23.120. That said, the Japanese hot hatch is officially hailed as the fastest front-wheel-drive vehicle to run on the renowned track.

With that being said, the all-new Civic Type R’s lap time surpassed the previous track record set by the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition. One can say that this is an important feat considering that the outgoing record-holder Civic Type R model is specifically tuned to reduce weight and become a more track-focused version.

Under the hood, reports suggest that the all-new Honda Civic Type R uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine that is capable of generating 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Some of the said upgrades for the latest iteration include a few engine tweaks, weight reduction, and increase body rigidity.

Honda seems to be looking to expand the reach of the upcoming hot hatch with the report that it will be available with a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. It will be offered alongside the 6-speed manual gearbox which was used during the record-setting run at the Suzuka Circuit.

The all-new Honda Civic Type R is slated to be officially unveiled this year. Honda said that the new Type R has been engineered to “fulfill and go beyond expectations and excite and inspire people.” In the meantime, fans of the Japanese hot hatch can watch the video of the new lap record set below.
