Gran Turismo is a racing simulation video game that started way back in 1997. It has created a generation of driving enthusiasts by bringing the excitement of racing into the virtual world. So to have the franchise on the big screen, Sony couldn’t be more thrilled about the project.
What makes the company even more excited about the racing movie is the success of movie adaptations of its video games, with Uncharted surpassing 400 million at the Box Office. The Last of Us is also set to debut on January 15, which is a post-apocalyptic TV series based on the 2013 video game.
As for Gran Turismo, the movie is based on the real-life story of Jann Mardenborough, a racecar driver who started his racing career by competing virtually at GT Academy. This program provided Gran Turismo gamers a chance to make it to the big stage.
The green flag will be out on August 11
Born on September 9, 1991, Mardernborough became the youngest winner of the GT Academy, giving him a chance to drive for Japanese automaker Nissan. He also competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which appears to be the main stage in the movie adaptation.
According to Sony, you can expect thrilling racing scenes that will feature high-performance cars like the Nissan GT-R, Le Mans prototypes, and the Lamborghini Huracan, among others. Viewers are also expected to be wowed by interesting camera angles that will capture racing actions including views available in the video game.
Directed by Neill Blomkamp, the Gran Turismo movie will be out in theaters on August 11, 2023. It will be starred by actors such as Orlando Bloom, David Harbour, Djimon Hounsou, and Archie Madekwe, who will be playing Madernborough.
