GAC Motor has launched the new Trumpchi E9 in China. If it looks familiar, the E9 is closely related to the M8, which was offered in the Philippine market as the GN8.
GAC Trumpchi E9
According to a report by carnewschina, the Trumpchi E9 comes with a wide array of features including a three-screen setup in the interior. It is also powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain capable of running up to 136 km in pure electric mode.
But first, let’s talk about the exterior. There are a good amount of styling differences between the two. The Trumpchi E9 gets a calmer look, with the massive grille hosting horizontal slats instead of the protruding vertical slats in the M8.
The side profiles of the two are identical. Looking closer, the Trumpchi E9 sports a more intentional floating roof design as the silver accent on the d-pillar is adjacent to the roof line. Just move to the back and you’ll see the two MPVs coming with similar taillights that run across the width of their tailgates.
A subtler-looking version of the M8
As we move into the interior, the new MPV has a familiar cabin layout, with the dashboard getting three screens including a 12.3-inch for the front passenger. For the second row passengers, they get to benefit from captain’s chairs, which are further complemented by ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.
Providing entertainment on the go is a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. It can be routed to a 16-speaker Yamaha sound system, with a 12-speaker sound system made available as an option.
In the safety department, passengers can feel at ease with the vehicle’s comprehensive advanced driver’s assistance system (ADAS) with 10 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, and four millimeter wave radars.
The cabin comes with a three-screen setup
The Trumpchi E9 boasts a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine (188 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque) with a two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) and an electric motor (180 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque) with a 25.57 kWh lithium-ion battery. When combined, the powertrain delivers 367 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque.
As mentioned earlier, the vehicle can run up to 136 km in pure electric mode on a single charge. The charging takes 3.5 hours using an AC input, while a DC input gets it done in 30 minutes only.
GAC Motor is offering the Trumpchi E9 in its homeland at 329,800 yuan (or around Php 2.616 million) for the base Pro variant, 369,800 yuan (Php 2.933 million) for the mid-spec Max variant, and 389,800 yuan (Php 3.092 million) for the flagship Grandmaster variant.
One packed MPV
Considering GAC Motor Philippines once brought a luxury MPV into its lineup, one can only hope the company will return to the market with the new Trumpchi E9.
