If you have your Land Transportation Office (LTO) driver’s license for quite some time now, you might have gone through the infamous hassle of just getting a temporary paper receipt instead of a card. Some even experienced waking up early in the morning to get a hard copy, but still ended up not securing a spot for the limited card distribution per day.
Issue resolved
This has been the case for many years in the operations of the government agency to the point that it has already reached over three million backlogs recorded last 2016. Now, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade announced that LTO’s long-time running issue about driver’s license has now been resolved.
DOTr Secretary Tugade said that the LTO, headed by Asec Edgar Galvante, no longer has backlogs for driver’s license cards. What’s great about the LTO driver’s license card is that it has been added with more safety features that are not visible to the naked eye to secure personal information, as well as to avoid producing fake ones.
Finding different ways to improve its services
Difficulty in LTO’s printing equipment is the main cause of the backlogs that reached over three million. It also includes the slow internet connection within its operations which hampered the card distribution. All of these issues are solved and the government agency will find more ways to improve its services to Filipinos.
Moreover, LTO is now preparing to distribute a driver’s license that has a 10-year validity, as opposed to the current 5-year validity, which is under its enhanced demerit system. This long-lasting privilege is said to be available only to motorists who have clean records in the government agency’s system.
Announcement from DOTr Secretary Art Tugade
Motorists can schedule an appointment online to further fast-track the renewal process of both their driver’s license and motor vehicle registration. LTO said that a special lane is given to those who have schedules which reduces processing time as compared to walk-in applicants.
