The Honda City Sedan and Brio have always been two of the best-selling models of the Japanese marque. These vehicles have been going back and forth with each other in keeping the brand’s name relevant in the local market. But for 2021, the City Sedan got the upper hand as it was hailed as Honda Cars Philippines, Inc.’s (HCPI) top seller.
In a report by Visor PH, the Honda City Sedan managed to sell 3,957 units last year, besting the Brio which contributed 3,220 units sold. This feat is a huge improvement over HCPI’s 2020 sales number, the year when the Brio topped the list. In addition, the model posted a 27.9 percent sales improvement last year over 2020.
Perhaps one of the reasons why the subcompact sedan gained more traction was the introduction of the fifth-gen version in late 2020. The all-new model features a sleeker-looking exterior design, a redesigned interior layout, and a dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) setup instead of a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) system from the outgoing model.
Honda Brio
Meanwhile, the Honda Brio went on to compete last year without any significant updates. The automaker’s hatchback entry still comes with the same design and features including the standard 1.2-liter SOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine. Regardless, the hatchback managed to rank second overall, accounting for 25.4 percent of the brand’s 2021 sales.
HCPI sold a total of 12,680 units last year. The City Sedan and Brio still were the models fighting for the top spot, while the flagship models such as the Civic Type R and Accord finished last in the sales race. Here is the complete list of the Japanese automaker’s sales performance in 2021:
