This is a record high for 2021.

Now that we are in the closing months of this year, the local automobile sales have been showing better numbers as compared to last year. Part of this turnaround is the more relaxed quarantine restrictions where car buyers can now safely visit dealerships. Businesses have also started to re-open so the need for mobility has been emphasized.

Toyota leads the pack

In a joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), the local market hit a record high for 2021 last November with 26,456 units sold. This translates to a 17.2 percent increase over October 2021 sales at 22,581 units, as well as 14.2 percent sales growth as compared to 23,162 units sold in November 2020.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) remains to be the top performer by selling 12,690 units, which is 47.97 percent of the overall November sales. It is followed by the Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation (MMPC) with a 14.81 percent November sales share at 3,918 units sold.

Mitsubishi stays competitive in second place

Coming in third for November 2021 sales is Nissan Philippines with 2,241 units sold. But in terms of overall sales, it is ranked fifth this year so far. Ford Philippines and Suzuki Philippines took fourth place with 1,860 units sold and fifth place with 1,658 units sold, respectively, in the said month.

Here are the other November sales report details as per CAMPI and TMA:

  • Year-to-date sales reached 240,642 units sold (more than last year’s 223,793 overall sales)
    • 76,813 of which units belong to Passenger Car (PC) sales.
    • 163,829 of which units belong to Commercial Vehicle (CV) sales
  • PC sales climbed by 5.3 percent to 8,205 units (month-on-month)
  • CV sales climbed by 18.7 percent to 15,372 (month-on-month)

“Surpassing our last year’s sales performance gives the industry a renewed hope that recovery is underway as restrictions started easing, and economic activities have resumed at improved levels,” said CAMPI President Atty. Gutierrez.
