More than 58,000 imported vehicles were sold last year.

The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID) has officially posted the sales report its members accomplished last year. In the report, a 14 percent sales growth was delivered thanks to its 58,916 units sold in 2021 as compared to 51,851 units sold in the previous year.

Suzuki leads the PC sales race

Leading the Passenger Car (PC) segment is Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPI) as it sold 8,079 units in 2021. One can say that the Japanese marque’s small and economy car offerings help bring the trophy home. Some of which units include the S-Presso hatchback and the Dzire subcompact sedan

Trailing SPI in the said segment is Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) and Ford Group Philippines, Inc. (FGPI), respectively. The Korean marque sold 4,639 units, which is significantly lower than its sales in 2020 at 8,464 units. Meanwhile, the Blue Oval company improved its year-to-date (YTD) sales by 67-percent with 1,681 units sold.

The Ford Ranger continues to deliver for the Blue Oval company

As for the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment, FGPI came out at the top by selling 18,324 units. The brand’s midsize pickup truck entry, the Ford Ranger, is the X factor to that sales feat. Coming in second is SPI with 11,314 units sold, while the third spot was taken by Geely under Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP).

Hyundai supports the PUVMP

Lastly, the Commercial Vehicle (CV) segment boasts a 212-percent YTD sales improvement. HARI took the lead as it managed to sell 936 units. The automaker’s initiative to expand the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) is one of the reasons why it tops the CV market. Moreover, Auto Nation Group (ANG) is one of the two car companies in this segment with 17 units sold.

“You cannot downplay the importance of mobility in the reopening of the economy, gradual though it may be,” said AVID President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo. “With unwavering confidence in the market and in the quality of our product and service offerings, AVID members are determined to build on these gains and look forward to an even better normal in 2022.”
