There’s a good chance that the all-new 2022 Toyota GR 86 will arrive in the Philippines this year. Speaking to Philkotse.com during the launch of the all-new Avanza, a representative from Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) said that the GR 86 is coming this year.
The TMP representative, who wished to stay anonymous, did not give a specific timeline as to when the 2022 GR 86 will be launched in the market. But, our source confirmed that it is in Toyota Philippines’ pipeline for this year.
The GR 86’s arrival in the local market is not much of a secret since TMP has previously planned to launch it since last year. Despite being slated for launch in the third quarter of 2021, the Philippine debut of the all-new Toyota GR 86 didn’t push through. TMP did not share the reason for the GR 86’s delayed arrival.
The all-new Toyota GR 86 made its world debut last April 2021. It features more power, new styling, and a better interior layout. It is still jointly developed with the Subaru BRZ, which explains why both cars have similar design details. Of note, the all-new BRZ is set to make its Philippine debut this year, and Subaru plans to launch it in April in time for the upcoming Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
During the global launch, the Japanese automaker said that the 2022 Toyota GR 86 is powered by a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that delivers 232 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission while power is sent to the rear wheels. Toyota added that the GR 86 can go from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.
