The Subaru BRZ just got more performance-oriented with the global debut of the new BRZ tS at the Subiefest California. Arriving as the model’s top-spec variant, the tS (tuned by STI) badge adds mechanical upgrades that should make the 2+2 sports car more thrilling to drive.
Subaru BRZ tS
The Subaru BRZ tS is equipped with STI-tuned front and rear Hitachi dampers said to maximize its “lightweight, ultra-low center of gravity and precision handling.” Consequently, the new suspension setup can provide better control and stability, which should give more confidence to drivers when cornering.
Another mechanical upgrade is the Brembo brake package. It includes gold-painted four-piston front calipers, gold-painted two-piston rear calipers, and larger pads and rotors. Since the brake package enhances stopping power, drivers can better maximize the performance of the engine without worrying about overshooting.
The tS badge adds mechanical upgrades
Speaking of the engine, no changes were made. This means the 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated boxer engine still makes 228 horsepower. It can be connected to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic gearbox. Power is sent exclusively to the 18-inch rear wheels in 215/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4.
Starting in the 2024 model, all BRZs with a manual gearbox will come equipped with the brand’s award-winning advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) called EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as standard. It provides ADAS functions such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking system, and lane departure warning.
The BRZ tS hosts interior tweaks
The tS badge also brings cosmetic changes that aim for a sporty appeal. Exterior-wise, tS badging is embedded on the front grille and rear decklid, while the side mirrors and shark fin antenna are finished in Crystal Black Silica. Interior-wise, the vehicle gets tS-exclusive contrast blue stitching and, the STI logo on the red starter button and digital instrument cluster.
A more performance-ready sports car
No pricing for the 2024 Subaru BRZ has been disclosed just yet. It is also still unclear whether Motor Image Pilipinas, Subaru’s official Philippine distributor, will bring the BRZ tS into the country. Currently, the PH-spec BRZ is available in two variants with a price that ranges from Php 2,549,000 to Php 2,649,000.
