The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has recently finished its rounds of testing for the all-new Ford Ranger pickup truck. As a result, the said model from the Blue Oval now has a five-star safety rating. The Ford Everest, which shares a platform with the Ranger, also underwent the same battery of tests and it also received a five-star rating.

For adult occupant crash protection, the Ford Ranger managed a score of 32.24, or 84 percent, out of a total of 38 points. The Everest meanwhile, had a slightly higher score of 32.99 or 86 percent in the same category.
Child occupant crash protection for the Ranger also sits high at 46 points out of 49 total points. That’s equivalent to 93 percent. The Everest in turn received 45.66 out of 49, or 93 percent in this category.
Both Ford models were also tested for vulnerable road user protection. In this category, both the Ranger and its SUV sibling received a score of 39.96 out of a total of 54 (74 percent). For those unaware, this test takes into consideration how both vehicles can reduce the damage done to pedestrians or even cyclists in the event of an accidental collision.

The Australian-spec units that were tested were also equipped with collision avoidance features which the ANCAP also takes into consideration as a separate category. These include autonomous emergency braking, as well as a lane support system. This is a broad term referring to features that work to keep a vehicle inside a lane.
In the said category, the Ranger scored 13.39 out of 16 points in total (83 percent). The Everest in turn scored a bit higher at 13.89 (86 percent). This is because the SUV model for the Australian market comes with reverse autonomous emergency braking, which is absent in turn of the Ranger.
The ANCAP ratings for the Ranger and Everest also apply to the top-spec trims available in the Philippines. These are the Everest Titanium+ 4x4 and the Ranger Wildtrak 4x4.

Those two top-spec variants after all, are also equipped with the safety assist features that were rated in the said battery of tests. In contrast, the Australian Ranger and Everest are all equipped with autonomous emergency braking and a lane support system.
It is then expected that other local trims that do not have driver assist features is still comparable to the Australian-spec models in terms of adult occupant safety and child occupant safety ratings.
This of course is great news for those looking to get the Ford Ranger and the Ford Everest as family chariots. It is also a testament to the engineering know-how of Ford itself.
