The Australian Supercar Championship will be the all-new Ford Mustang GT's racing debut
This follows the global premiere of the roadgoing model held in Detroit in September, both in standard and performance-oriented Dark Horse trim levels.
“It is fantastic to be able to show, for the very first time globally, the seventh-generation Mustang in racing form,” said Ford Performance Motorsports Global Director Mark Holbrook. “The reveal of the Mustang Supercar is the first of many, with Mustang to race in GT3, GT4, NASCAR, and NHRA competition globally.”
Power comes in the form of a 5.4-liter Coyote V8 making over 600 horses
The 2023 Mustang GT ‘Gen3’ Supercar contender was unveiled at the Mount Panorama Circuit in New South Wales. It was built by Ford homologation team Dick Johnson Racing in partnership with Ford Performance for the 2023 racing season. Several aspects it shares with its road-legal sibling include the low roofline, long hood, and the production-based 5.4-liter fourth-generation Coyote V8 engine rated at over 600 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque.
“We’re very proud to be showing the world our new Mustang Supercar, and what better place to do it than at the Great Race here at Mount Panorama,” said Ford Australia and New Zealand President & CEO Andrew Birkic. “This car looks sensational, it’s loud, it’s fast, and we can’t wait to see it hit the track.”
Ford is using the latest Mustang to support a host of teams for the 2023 racing season
