Last April 2021, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) discontinued the Jazz to make room for the new City Hatchback in the local lineup. The City Hatchback shares identical features with its subcompact sedan counterpart, the City, which was introduced by the Japanese car brand in the country just last year.

Both the newcomers aim to be offered to those in the market for a reliable and efficient daily drive vehicle. And HCPI decides to do just that by partnering with the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) to conduct test runs to show Filipino car buyers how fuel-efficient the two models are.
After a total of 73.5 kilometers of highway day driving, the City Hatchback 1.5 RS CVT earned a 25 km/l fuel consumption rating. Meanwhile, the City sedan recorded a fuel mileage of 25.17 km/l. These numbers are significantly better as compared to the previous fuel economy run conducted for the City in 2017 at 23.9 km/l.

To ensure that the fuel consumption ratings are authentic, the test run conducted for the two Honda models was completed under realistic driving conditions. The set driving conditions are as follows:
- Speed of 60 to 80 km/h at 1,500 to 2,000 rpm.
- Aircon set on a low fan setting and approximately at 24 degrees celsius.
Under the hood, both models are powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine capable of generating 119 hp and 145 Nm of torque. The variants tested in the fuel economy run use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which is regarded to be generally more fuel-efficient as compared to a geared transmission.
“The fuel economy run is our own initiative, in partnership and supervision of Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), Through this, we hope to provide customers accurate information that would aid them to form a decision in their car selection and purchase process,” said HCPI President Mr. Masahiko Nakamura.

“The positive results from the activity reaffirm the fuel efficiency of both City models, hopefully making them a favorable sedan and hatchback choice for the Filipino people,” concluded Nakamura.
