As Philkotse has reported before, the North American market has already received the all-new eleventh-generation 2022 Honda Civic. Apart from that, we also discussed that this new Honda model packs more power, and we also took a closer look at how it differs from the outgoing tenth-generation model.
Honda Singapore's 11th-generation, ASEAN-spec Civic teaser
Now, Honda Singapore has posted a preview picture of the ASEAN-spec version of the new Civic. The said picture can be found on the company’s official website, and from it we can glean some details of its features.
For starters, its grille looks totally different than the one on the US version. It is colored in black, which is arguably better-looking than the body-color version of the US model. It provides the car a sportier feel, which is of course in-keeping with what Asians perceive the Civic as.
Moreover, the teaser photo shows the windshield of the upcoming Honda-made sedan. From this, we can guess that it will be coming with the Honda SENSING driver assist safety suite. This might include autonomous emergency braking, and other technologies like lane-keep assist, an object detection system, among others. Of note, the current Philippine-spec Civic, even the top-spec RS variant, lacks Honda SENSING.
As for its general shape however, it appears that the Civic for the Asian market will largely come with the same exterior shape as the US version. As we’ve said in previous reports, it is more mature-looking than the current Civic model being sold right now. Some are even saying that it looks like a “mini-Accord.”
The recently released US-spec 2022 Honda Civic
Regarding powertrains, nothing has been revealed yet for the Asian eleventh-gen Civic. Nevertheless, we already know that the American version is packing two engine options. The more powerful of the two is a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated mill capable of dishing out 158 horsepower and 187 Nm of torque. The other is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine capable of generating up to 180 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque. Suffice to say, either of the two has more grunt than the current engines available to the Civic that’s sold in the Philippines right now.
So, do you think that the Civic previewed by Honda Singapore is the one coming to the Philippines? Well, judging by how it looks similar to the sleek and mature US version and how it's likely to come with driver-assist technology, we sure hope so.
