The all-new 2022 Toyota Raize is now available in the Philippines. For those who are still unfamiliar with this model, this is Toyota Philippine's smallest and most affordable crossover offering so far in the country. It can seat up to five, apart from assuming a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.

For the local market, the Toyota Raize comes in four variants. These are the Raize E 1.2 MT, the Raize E 1.2 CVT, Raize G 1.2 CVT, and the Raize 1.0 Turbo CVT. So which of these is the right variant for you?
Toyota Raize Variants: Exterior
On the outside, all Raize variants look similar to each other. For that matter, all come with the same dimensions. Across the board, each variant has a length of 4,030mm, a width of 1,710mm, and a height of 1,605mm. A ground clearance of 200mm is also standard.

The top-spec Raize 1.0 Turbo CVT does have some exterior bits not found on the lower-spec trims. These include a larger set of 17-inch alloy wheels, and a two-tone body color scheme.
In turn, the Raize E and G trims come with a smaller set of 16-inch alloy wheels, plus a monotone body color. All do come standard with LED taillights, a rear spoiler, as well as a shark fin antenna.

The E trim level’s manual and CVT variants also have power-adjustable but manually folding side mirrors. They also have body-color door handles, which are chrome-colored for the G and the 1.0 Turbo trims. Both of the aforementioned higher-spec trims also have power-folding side mirrors, a piano black rear garnish, and LED headlamps.

Toyota Raize Variants: Interior
Inside, the entry-level E MT and E CVT variants come with a urethane steering wheel, and fabric-covered seats. They also come standard with an analog gauge cluster.
On the Raize G and 1.0 Turbo, additional interior features include a push-button start, a digital gauge cluster, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Both higher-spec Raize trims also come with an automatic climate control system, whereas the Raize E trims have a manual climate control system.

There are also two different infotainment systems available for the 2022 Toyota Raize. On the E and G variants, they come with an eight-inch head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Raize E however, only has four speakers, while the Raize G has six.
On the top-spec 1.0 Turbo trim, the size of the touchscreen is bumped up to nine inches. It has the same connectivity options as the smaller unit on the E and G, but like the latter, it also has six speakers.
Other interior features exclusive to the Raize 1.0 Turbo include brushed silver trim pieces.
Toyota Raize Variants: Engine & Performance
For engines, there are two options for the Philippine-spec Toyota Raize. On the Raize E MT, E CVT, and G CVT variants, they all use a 1.2-liter inline-3 gasoline mill that’s capable of making up to 87 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. As the variant names imply, these trims may either come with a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that delivers power to the front wheels.

Meanwhile, the Raize’s top-spec trim uses a 1.0-liter turbocharged inline-3 gasoline engine. This three-banger is rated at 97 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. It also uses a CVT, but paddle shifters are provided for its manual mode.
For suspension systems, all Raize variants use a MacPherson strut for the front and a torsion beam for the rear. All trims also come standard with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
Toyota Raize Variants: Safety
For safety, the standard on all Raize trims is anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, hill-start assist, and stability control.
The top-spec 1.0 Turbo trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, as well as a rear parking camera. It also comes fitted with six airbags, compared to dual airbags on the Raize E and G trims. All trims also come with an engine immobilizer and rear parking sensors, while only the top-spec variant gets front parking sensors. Only the G and the 1.0 Turbo have a car alarm. All then come standard with speed-sensing door locks.

Toyota Raize Variants: Conclusion
From the specs of the Toyota Raize we described above, it is pretty clear to see that you get what you pay for. The most expensive trim offers the most power and the most safety equipment and onboard features. The power figures on the entry-level E and mid-spec G however, are identical.

So, if safety is your priority, then you should get the Raize 1.0 Turbo CVT. The same goes if you like a sportier-feeling crossover. Obviously, budget-conscious buyers should then turn to the Raize E trims. As a middle ground, there’s the Raize G. It might not provide driver-assist features, but it does have more convenience features than the E.
