It’s evident that the crossover market has been gaining traction in the Philippines. Several car brands have already launched their respective challenger specifically in the subcompact crossover category, a segment where Toyota Motor Philippines wants to join the action.
2022 Toyota Raize subcompact crossover
Set to make its official local debut on February 4, the 2022 Toyota Raize aims to be a contender in the tightly contested five-seater subcompact crossover segment. The Raize will go up against the likes of the Kia Stonic, Volkswagen T-Cross, and Chery Tiggo 2.
In terms of dimensions, the Toyota Raize is a bit more compact when compared to the Kia Stonic. It is 70mm shorter in length, 25mm narrower, and has a 45mm shorter wheelbase. This means that the Raize is smaller in terms of size when compared side by side with Kia’s subcompact crossover. However, the Raize is 72mm taller and has 200mm of ground clearance, which is 15mm more compared to the Stonic’s 185mm.
Toyota PH is joining the subcompact crossover trend
Depending on the variant, the Raize’s exterior can be fitted with LED headlights, power-folding side mirrors, and a set of 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels. As expected, the top-spec Toyota Raize is equipped with LED headlights, a feature that could sway car buyers when compared with the Stonic’s top-of-the-line trim that comes with halogen headlights.
The interior of the top-spec 1.0 Turbo CVT, and the 1.2 G CVT are integrated with a digital instrument cluster, push start button, keyless entry, and automatic airconditioning system. The Toyota Raize 1.0 Turbo variant gets the most when it comes to the infotainment system. It has a nine-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is then linked to a six-piece speaker system.

In terms of safety, standard for all 2022 Toyota Raize is the following: anti-lock brake system, vehicle stability control, and hill-start assist. The top-spec trim, on the other hand, gets a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, rear camera, as well as front and rear parking sensors.
The Toyota Raize is powered by either a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine or a 1.2-liter naturally-aspirated engine. The turbocharged power unit generates 97 hp and 140 Nm of torque, numbers that are at par with the Kia Stonic’s 1.4 gasoline engine.

The Raize’s non-turbo 1.2-liter engine produces 87 hp and 113 Nm of torque, which obviously lags behind its segment rivals that come with a 1.5-liter engine. To put things in perspective, the Volkswagen T-Cross puts out 112 hp and 145 Nm of torque while the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro has 108 hp and 140 Nm.
The gearbox option for the 2022 Toyota Raize is either a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT), depending on the variant.
One of the interesting points to look out for the Toyota Raize is its price range. The entry-level trim, which is the 1.2 E MT, undercuts its segment rivals when it comes to pricing. The Raize 1.2 E MT has a price tag of Php 746,000, which is Php 19,000 lower than the entry-level Kia Stonic variant.

The Raize could also take away some sales numbers from the Wigo. Car buyers might be lured to drive home the larger Raize than the Wigo’s top-spec variant that’s priced at Php 700,000. The Raize is 330mm longer, and 110mm wider than the Wigo. It also has a longer wheelbase at 75mm, and the Raize has more ground clearance at 200mm as compared to the Wigo’s 180mm.
The 2022 Toyota Raize is offered at the following prices:
- Toyota Raize 1.2 E MT – Php 746,000
- Toyota Raize 1.2 E CVT – Php 816,000
- Toyota Raize 1.2 G CVT – Php 906,000
- Toyota Raize 1.0 Turbo CVT – Php 1,031,000
- Toyota Raize 1.0 Turbo CVT (White Pearl) – Php 1,036,000

Toyota Raize Launch
The Toyota Raize Philippines is a rebadged version of the Daihatsu Rocky. It was first unveiled at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show back in 2019.
Development on this model, however, started as far back as 2017. From the get-go, it was based on Daihatsu’s DNGA platform, which primarily focuses on Kei cars and city car models.
It was then introduced to the Philippine market in January 2022.
Toyota Raize Exterior
When it comes to size, the Toyota Raize is 4,030mm long, 1,710mm wide, and 1,605mm in height. It then has a wheelbase length of 2,525mm. It then offers a ground clearance of 200mm.
For the top-spec variant and the G variant, these come standard with a pair of split-type LED headlamps. All trims though, are equipped with daytime running lights, and halogen fog lamps.
Other exterior features present on the top-spec Raize and the Raize G include auto-folding side mirrors, and a sharkfin antenna, among others. This subcompact crossover will then ride on a set of 16-inch or 17-inch wheels depending on the trim.
Toyota Raize Interior
Inside, the Toyota Raize can seat up to five occupants. Depending on the trim, it either gets leather-clad seats or fabric-covered seats. The rear seats are also split folding. Moreover, it also offers a tilt-adjustable steering column. Some trims also have a push-to-start button, as well as automatic climate control.
Technology and Safety Features
For tech, the Toyota Raize has a nine-inch headunit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has two USB charging ports. The said headunit is then linked up to a six-piece speaker system.
Safety-wise, this Toyota crossover also features stability control, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, and hill-start assist.
The top-spec variant adds to those with a rear camera, front, and rear parking sensors, as well as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Platform and Chassis
The Toyota Raize is built upon the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNHA) platform. This means that it is a unibody vehicle.
For suspensions, it uses MacPherson struts for the front, and a torsion beam for the rear. Braking is then handled by front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
Engine and Performance
The Toyota Raize is getting two engine options for the Philippine market. For the E and G trims, these are powered by a 1.2-liter inline-3 gasoline engine capable of making up to 87 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque.
The top-spec variant comes with a more powerful 1.0-liter inline-3 turbocharged engine. At maximum, this motor can produce 97 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque.
The 1.2-liter versions are either paired with a CVT or a five-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-liter turbo version meanwhile, is getting a CVT with paddle shifters.
Locally, the Toyota Raize comes in six different color options. These include Gray Metallic, Silver Metallic, and Red 2. For the 1.0 Turbo CVT variant, its two-tone paint job can either come in White Pearl/Black, Turquoise Mica Metallic/Black, or Yellow SE/Black.
In the Philippine subcompact crossover segment, the Toyota Raize sits high up the totem pole when it comes to offering features. Then again, there are some models from Chinese brands that can beat it in terms of driver-assist tech. The Raize also sits in the middle of the pack when it comes to engine outputs, and it is on-par with its competitors when it comes to interior space.
