The SsangYong Rexton is the brand's offering to the midsize SUV segment in the market. The vehicle is making its name amidst the intense competition in the Philippines. The SsangYong Rexton is the only ladder-frame SUV offering from South Korea. It shares the same platform with its cousin, the SsangYong Musso. The Korean Pickup truck is based on the brand's SUV, the SsangYong Rexton. By simply looking on the vehicle's exterior, it shows a very familiar proportion to the standard SUVs rolling on the Metro roads. The South Korean manufacturer's 4x4 offering proves the capability of the brand as a go-anywhere vehicle. Because of the heavy competition in the SUV segment, SsangYong ensures that its Rexton is equipped with creature comforts, amenities, and features that are not usually found in most SUVs like cooled and heated seats. The vehicle is also employed with convenience and advanced safety features to assist the driver. It also boasts a seamless smartphone connectivity courtesy of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SsangYong also equipped the Rexton with the standard fare of equipment such as 4x4 and 4x2 options, 2.2L diesel engine, and a spacious cabin that can accommodate seven occupants. Launch
SsangYong Philippines launched the second-generation SsangYong Rexton in November 2019. The new Ssangyong Rexton features a sleeker ad wider body compared to its predecessor. The vehicle is bulked, creased, curved, and squared in all the right places. This provides the new Rexton has a handsome exterior. The Korean SUV comes with an elegant design that is not too outlandish compared to its rival PPVs.
The new model also comes with a diesel engine and can accommodate seven passengers. The SUV from the South Korean carmaker is now offered in two variants, a 4x4 and 4x2 models. SsangYong Rexton is equipped with a powerful 2.2L diesel engine that can be paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Exterior
The exterior of the SsangYong Rexton has clean lines from the front to the rear. The front part of the vehicle features a grille positioned high, and seating on it is the brand's logo. The headlight of the car is comprised of an HID projector set with high halogen beams. Those lights are supplemented by LED daytime running lights that can also be used as turn signal indicators. The bottom part of the front bumper has LED fog lights, while the rear is also equipped with LED taillights along with a pair of fog lamps on the bottom part of the bumper.
The SsangYong Rexton rides on 20-inch wheels that are finished in shiny chrome.

Interior
The cabin of the SsangYong Rexton features a black and brown theme along with a wood accent in the middle of the dashboard. However, the Korean SUVs lower variants come with a beige and black theme with seats that are only available in black and do not have any accent color. The color of the vehicle's interior is an excellent combination that incites a feeling of comfort and warmth.
Both the front seats are equipped with power adjustability. In terms of the seating material, SsangYong Rexton comes with Nappa brown leather at the seat’s center flanked with black leather on both sides. In addition, Nappa leather is also present on the dashboard underneath the wood accent.
Technology & Safety features
The Korean SUV is equipped with several techs and safety features, including the 8-inch capacitive touchscreen display available in both of its trims. The head unit of the SsangYong Rexton is capable of smartphone mirroring via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A six-speaker system is standard for both variants. The vehicle is also equipped with an LCD gauge cluster – making it easier for drivers to view important information with crisp and clear font. Backup camera and rear proximity sensors are also available in the Korean SUV.
In terms of safety, the SsangYong Rexton is equipped with airbags for both driver and passenger, brake assist, ABS with EBD, security alarm, immobilizer, electronic door locks, stability control, ISOFIX anchors for the second row, and speed-sensing door locks. Additional convenience and safety, the Korean SUV also comes with front parking sensors, cruise control, and power outlet situated on the center console.
Platform & Chassis
SsangYong Rexton is a 5-door midsize SUV that sits on a Ladder-on-Frame Platform. It can accommodate seven occupants with a length of 4850 mm, a width of 1960 mm, a wheelbase of 2865 mm, and a ground clearance of 224 mm.
The suspension of the SsangYong Rexton is handled by the independent suspension for both front and rear. The stopping power of the Korean SUV is managed by the ventilated disc brakes at the front and back. The vehicle can be had with either a front-engine four-wheel-drive or front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout. The SsangYong Rexton rides on a set of 20-inch wheels.
Engine & Drivetrain
Under the hood of the SsangYong Rexton lies a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel motor that creates 179 horsepower and 420 Newton-meter of torque. The powerplant is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission that handles downshifts and upshifts smoothly. The vehicle lacks paddles shifters bit comes with a switch on the gear lever.
Handling the SsangYong Rexton was surprisingly well. There will be no problem in taking corners at speed because the suspension tends to lean respectably.
The fuel capacity of the SsangYong Rexton is 6.1 kilometers per liter when driven in urban or city roads. Mixing highway driving with city driving will give 12 kilometers per liter.
