The Magnite from Japanese automaker Nissan is a subcompact crossover that first debuted globally in October 2020. It was then introduced in the Indian market in late 2020. The Nissan Magnite has been received well by the Indian market as Nissan managed to acquire 5,000 orders within just five days after its launch. The Japanese automaker wants to replicate the Magnite’s positive sales performance in India to the ASEAN market as it launched the said subcompact car in Indonesia. Nissan said that the Magnite takes its name from the words “magnetic” and “ignite.”
Launch
Initially introduced in the Indian market, Nissan has also brought the Magnite subcompact crossover in the ASEAN region. The first market to get the Nissan Magnite is Indonesia. As such, this is a hint that Nissan Philippines could offer the subcompact crossover locally. If and when it is launched in the local market, the Magnite would go head-to-head with the Kia Stonic and Hyundai Venue. Of note, the Indonesian-spec Nissan Magnite is powered by a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, similar to the one equipped with the Indian-spec model. The said engine delivers 99 hp and 160 Nm of torque. It is mated to a continuously variable transmission.
Exterior
The Nissan Magnite comes with an aggressive front end design that’s highlighted by sharp-looking headlights, fang-like daytime running lights, and a large mesh grille. Turning at the side, the Magnite comes with a stylish set of alloy wheels, and boasts a ground clearance of 205 mm. The rear, on the other hand, is fitted with striking LED taillights, silver skid plates, and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.
Interior
The interior of the Nissan Magnite comes with a black theme along with splashes of silver trims. The steering wheel is integrated with audio and phone controls while placed at the center of the dashboard is an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Magnite also comes with rear aircon vents, and Nissan said that it can accommodate up to five occupants including the driver.
Tech & Safety
The Nissan Magnite is not short on tech and safety features. The eight-inch floating-type multimedia touchscreen is integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The touchscreen also functions as the Magnite’s Around View Monitor display. In addition, this subcompact crossover comes with a seven-inch digital instrument cluster display
The Magnite also comes with a seven-inch digital instrument cluster display, cruise control, and a wireless mobile charger. In terms of safety, the Nissan Magnite is equipped with dual front airbags, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, rear parking sensors, around view monitor, speed-sensing door locks, traction control, hill start assist, among others.
Platform & Chassis
The Nissan Magnite comes with a MacPherson strut front suspension while a twin-tube telescopic for the rear. In terms of braking, the Magnite is equipped with a disc brake for the front and a drum for the rear.
Engine
The Nissan Magnite is powered by a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that generates 99 hp and 160 Nm of torque. It is mated to a continuously variable transmission.
