SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., the official distributor of BMW vehicles in the Philippines, has expanded its model lineup once again with the introduction of the all-new 2024 5 Series.
The 2024 BMW 5 Series launched for the Philippine market is available in two flavors–the gasoline-powered BMW 520i and the electric vehicle (EV) BMW i5 eDrive40. The new vehicles are the latest generation of BMW’s 5 Series model, marking the executive sedan’s 52nd anniversary.
Exterior
The all-new BMW 5 Series features an assertive and confident exterior that’s highlighted by sharp-looking headlights, which are integrated with LED daytime running lights. The signature BMW kidney grille can easily be spotted, which is further accented by the German car brand’s Iconic Glow contour lighting.
Both the BMW 520i and the BMW i5 eDrive40 EV come with a sleek side profile that features a high shoulder line as well as two crisp character lines, giving the vehicle an athletic stance.
Black side skirts, flush-mounted door openers, and an embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar further give the executive sedan a distinctive look.
The rear end is equally striking, thanks to the slim yet confident-looking taillights. It also comes with a muscular bumper that’s integrated with a flat silver trim. The BMW 520i has a set of 19-inch light alloy wheels in silver while the i5 eDrive40 EV comes with bicolor grey 19-inch aerodynamic wheels.
There are six different kinds of paintwork for both the BMW 520i and the BMW i5 eDrive40. Both models are available in Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Cape York Green, Oxide Grey, Phytonic Blue, and Sophisto Grey.
Interior
The interior of the all-new BMW 520i and the i5 eDrive40 have a modern finish. The dashboard of both BMW vehicles is dominated by screens while having a reduced number of vehicle buttons and controls as compared to its predecessor.
BMW is also proud to say that the 2024 5 Series is its first model to feature a fully vegan interior called Veganza. This includes the surfaces of the newly designed sports seats, the dashboard, and the door panels, as well as the steering wheel. Speaking of which, BMW redesigned the 5’s steering wheel to have a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on the control panels.
The all-new BMW 5 Series also has Harman Kardon speakers, which are said to produce an impressively balanced sound that would reach all the corners of the BMW 520i and the BMW i5 eDrive40.
Tech & Safety
As mentioned earlier, the all-new BMW 5 Series has a cabin with a significantly reduced number of buttons and controls compared to the outgoing model. It features more screens and fewer buttons, which is why the interior has a modern finish.
Dominating the dashboard is a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The two screens is where you can adjust vehicle settings in both the BMW 520i and the i5 eDrive40. It also comes with seamless phone integration as the all-new 5 Series comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moreover, it also has a wireless charging tray.
The two new BMW vehicles in the Philippines are equipped with the car brand’s ConnectedDrive tech, providing an elevated level of connectivity and convenience for drivers. The BMW ConnectedDrive allows owners to remotely control vehicle functions and access essential vehicle information directly from their smartphones.
The all-new BMW 520i and the BMW i5 eDrive40 come with the Parking Assistant’s range of functions that have been extended with the addition of the reversing assistant. This takes control of the steering while backing up for distances of up to 50 meters. The BMW i5 eDrive40 exclusively features the Lane Departure Warning system with Driving Assistant while also featuring lane return using steering assistance.
Engine
The 2024 BMW 5 Series for the Philippine market comes with a choice of gasoline engine and all-electric powertrain. The BMW 520i is powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that delivers 208 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW Philippines said the 520i can go from zero to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds while achieving a top speed of 230 km/h.
