The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan for the global market has officially debuted. It is now in its third generation, and it comes seven years after the second-gen model was introduced back in 2016.

Of note, the Tiguan left the Philippine market back in 2021 where it was replaced by the T-Cross. Nevertheless, let’s go over the new Volkswagen-made crossover’s specs to see what its future buyers are getting into.

Exterior

Starting with its front end, the all-new Tiguan now sports a sleek face similar to the ones found on VW’s ID line of cars. Its grille had a redesign and its openings are now positioned to the sides of the bumper. This part of the vehicle also employs air curtains for optimum air routing.

Bisecting the front of the vehicle is a glass-covered horizontal strip. This links together the crossover’s new IQ.LIGHT HD matrix LED headlamps which now feature 19,200 multipixel LEDs for each headlight for improved visibility.

Towards the sides, one can see that it rides on a set of 20-inch wheels. Likewise present are sharp character lines just above the black-plastic-clad fenders. The rear then gets a new LED strip as well as a mesh-patterned faux diffuser.

Interior

The cockpit of the all-new Tiguan was revamped to incorporate a wealth of new digital driving and on-board entertainment systems. But despite being heavy on tech, it still gets a physical rotary knob that controls its central display, audio volume, and various other functions.

Seating aboard this crossover meanwhile, is claimed to keep the vehicle’s occupants comfortable for long distances. This is provided by its pneumatic four-way lumbar adjustment and pneumatic 10-chamber pressure massage function, and its programmable automatic heating and cooling functions.

Interior space was likewise improved on the Tiguan as it can now carry up to 652 liters of cargo by default.

Tech & Safety

As mentioned above, the new Tiguan features a wealth of tech. It gets a sizable 15-inch central infotainment touchscreen display, while the driver gets a head-up display (projected on the windshield) as well as an OLED digital gauge cluster.

According to the German marque, the central tablet utilizes a new menu structure and graphics for ease of use. It also gets an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare, and it is positioned in a landscape format for increased visibility. Keeping devices powered up aboard the crossover is made easy thanks to a wireless charging pad.

For now, the brand is yet to share whether it gets wireless smartphone integration but those bits are to be expected on a 2024 model.

Safety aboard the vehicle is then provided by a number of features including autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, a rearview camera, lane change assist, etc. Optional to the model is an automatic self-parking feature as well as a trailer assist feature.

Engine

The 2024 Tiguan will be getting multiple engine options. The brand says that it will have a turbodiesel engine, a turbocharged gasoline mill, a mild hybrid turbocharged gasoline engine, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The PHEV, known as eHybrid will feature a fully electric range of up to 99 kilometers. It will also get fast DC and AC charging.

Handling on the all-new Tiguan is then managed by an adaptive damping system (ADS). This feature is controlled by the DCC - a system for drivers to directly control the ADS for better comfort or performance depending on the road surface.

Reinforcing the DCC is the optional DCC Pro with two-valve shock absorbs and a vehicle dynamics manager similar to the one on the new Volkswagen Golf GTI. These then work in conjunction with the Tiguan’s electronic differential locks for improved traction, stability, and agility.

The next-gen model uses the brand's MQB Evo platform

As of the moment, no exact specs for the next-gen model were provided by the brand. When it launches in Europe in the first quarter of 2024 however, the brand will no doubt release a full spec sheet and a features list.

The question now is, should the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan return to the Philippine market?
