The Subaru Impreza has officially made its return in sixth-generation form at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

2024 Subaru Impreza RS

Subaru delivered a handful of updates to the all-new 2024 Impreza from the design to the performance departments. All of these are built on the now-standard hatchback body of the model, meaning the sedan version is out the door along with the previous generation.

The all-new Subaru Impreza will be available in the U.S. market later this year in three variants: Base, Sport, and RS. Subaru confirms that global markets will also get the sixth-gen model. With that being said, let’s see what this new and updated hatchback can offer.

Exterior

The all-new Subaru Impreza shares similar design cues as the rest of the Japanese automaker’s lineup, particularly its subcompact crossover sibling, the Crosstrek. As the name suggests, the top-of-the-line RS variant adds sporty bits such as black exterior accents and black alloy wheels.

Subaru Impreza Sport

Speaking of wheels, the entry-level Impreza Base variant gets 16-inch alloy wheels, while the two come with a set of 18-inch alloys. The torsional rigidity of the Subaru Global Platform is said to be improved by 10 percent, which should enhance the driving dynamics of the hatchback.

Interior

Inside, the layout is familiar as well, especially for those who have been keeping up with the latest from the Japanese automaker. For the Impreza RS, the cabin hosts sport front seats with red cloth bolsters, adding sportiness to the finish. The leather-wrapped steering and shifter are also upgraded in this variant.

Interior of the all-new hatchback

As a dedicated hatchback model, the automaker wanted to improve the versatility of the all-new version. It comes with convenient 60/40 split fold-down rear seats to introduce more cargo room when needed. Features such as a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat and power moonroof are also available in the RS.

Tech & Safety

Fitted into the center of the dashboard is an 11.6-inch vertically-oriented infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also supports USB, USB Type C, and AUX connectivity. A 10-speaker Harman Kardon system can be enjoyed by those who will get the range-topper RS.

It comes exclusively with a hatchback body style

The latest version of the brand’s award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is integrated into the all-new hatchback. It has a wider field of view and updated control software which aim to detect road hazards on the road more quickly. Moreover, the system is integrated with an electronic brake booster, enabling quicker deceleration when Automatic Emergency Braking is activated.

Engine & Performance

The 2024 Subaru Impreza is available in two engine options. For the Impreza Base and Sport, the models are powered by a 2.0-liter boxer-4 engine capable of generating 152 horsepower and 197 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the RS variant gets a larger 2.5-liter boxer-4 engine with 182 horsepower and 241 Nm of torque.

The RS badge brings a bigger, more powerful engine

But as standard, the hatch uses a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and the brand’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system. This means that Subaru has officially dropped the manual gearbox option.
