Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) launched the 2023 BR-V one year after the unveiling of the next-gen model in Indonesia.

The 2023 Honda BR-V is entering the local MPV segment that is joined by new or reworked models including the Hyundai Stargazer, Nissan Livina, and facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander. With tight competition, let’s see how the all-new BR-V stacks up by looking at the features available in its four variants: S MT, S CVT, V CVT, and VX CVT Honda Sensing.

Exterior

Coming in with larger dimensions, the Honda BR-V gets a handful of standard features including full LED headlights, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), LED turn signals, and LED taillights with an LED high-mount stop lamp. The base 1.5 S MT has 16-inch steel wheels, while the rest benefit from a set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

It boasts an SUV design

The design gives off more of an SUV styling as compared to the outgoing model that unmistakably looks like an MPV. Depending on the variant, the vehicle can be finished in either Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Premium Opal White Silver Pearl, or Taffeta White.

Interior

Inside, the BR-V S MT and S CVT have a keyless entry system, manual air conditioning system, urethane shift knob, and high-grade fabric seats. As for the higher-end variants, the V and VX Honda Sensing, they get a smart entry system, automatic air conditioning system, and an interior predominated by leather including the seats.

The interior also hosts standard features such as the 7-inch infotainment touchscreen. To keep passengers connected on the go, the 7-inch touchscreen head unit supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Bluetooth. Other standard bits include two cup holders, six bottle holders, and a 7-seating configuration that features One-Touch Tumble for the second row and Dive Down Mechanism for the rearmost seats .

Tech & Safety

In terms of safety, the 2023 Honda BR-V comes standard with front dual SRS airbags, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), a reverse camera with guidelines, immobilizer, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and speed sensing door locks. The top-spec VX trim also gets the Honda LaneWatch tech.

The next-gen BR-V is equipped with ADAS

But what’s not standard is the use of the Japanese automaker’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) called Honda Sensing. You have to opt for the top-of-the-line BR-V VX variant to get this. Here is the list of features in the aforementioned safety tech system:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Auto High Beam (AHB)
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  • Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
  • Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN)

Engine & Powertrain

Powering the next-gen Honda BR-V is a 1.5-liter i-VTEC DOHC inline-4 gasoline engine, which comes standard across all four of the model’s variants. If the power unit sounds familiar to you, that’s because it is the same one found in BR-V’s subcompact sedan sibling, the City.

1.5-liter i-VTEC engine

The engine is capable of generating 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. Only the base BR-V S variant gets a 6-speed manual transmission as the rest use a continuously variable transmission (CVT). In a recent fuel eco test run done in partnership with the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), the new MPV achieved 24.7 km/l for the 1.5 V CVT variant.
