Maxus enters the midsize body-on-frame SUV game.

In September 2021, Maxus Philippines brought in the D90 for the model year 2022. And unlike most of the models it has released locally so far, this is a full-on body-on-frame midsize SUV. This means that it’s looking to compete against the Toyota Fortuner, Nissan Terra, Ford Everest, and many other models in the highly contested local midsize SUV market.

So, what does the all-new D90 offer?

Exterior

In terms of size, Maxus claims that the D90 is one of the bigger models in its class. This is somewhat evident from its wheelbase length of 2,950mm. Maxus Philippines has yet to disclose the model's dimensions for the local release, but do note that the Chinese version has a length of 5,005mm, a width of 1,932mm, and a height of 1,875mm. Those figures exceed those of any midsize SUV in the market right now.

Design-wise though, it looks like a larger, more imposing version of the smaller D60 model. It doesn’t get the same intricately patterned grille, but the rest of its body features sculpted character lines and an angular-looking bumper.

Its exterior is also kitted out with automatic LED headlamps, LED taillights, LED daytime running lamps, a sunroof, and a set of 19-inch alloy wheels. The 4x4 variant also comes with a power tailgate.

Interior

As mentioned, the D90 can seat up to seven people with cargo room to spare. The second row has a 60:40 split fold function and a center arm rest, while the third-row can be split-fold 50:50. The said seats for the D90 are clad in leather.

The driver is then provided with a 12-way power adjustable seat, while the front passenger gets an eight-way power adjustable seat for the 4x4 variant. A push-to-start button, cruise control, and keyless entry system is also present. All occupants are then cooled by a dual-zone automatic air-conditioning system with rear vents.

Tech and Safety

Dominating the dashboard of the D90 is a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. It is then linked to eight speakers.

It is also chock-full of safety features which includes six airbags, a reverse camera, rain-sensing wipers, parking distance control, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start and hill-descent control, driver fatigue monitoring, among others.

Engine

Under the hood, the Maxus D90 gets two engine options. For the 4x4 Premium AT variant, it uses a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel inline-4 engine that’s capable of making up to 214 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque. It then uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. Exclusive to the 4x4 is an all-terrain system with a differential lock.

Meanwhile, the 4x2 Premium AT variant uses a 2.0-liter single turbo diesel mill that can make up to 159 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque. It comes with the same eight-speed automatic gearbox.

And lastly, both trims of the D90 come standard with an electronic parking brake.

Price

The standard retail price for the D90 4x4 Premium AT sits at Php 2.268 million. The 4x2 Premium AT meanwhile is Php 1,918 million.

Prospective buyers of the D90 should also note that it comes with a five-year or 100,000 km warranty, whichever comes first. It also gets access to 24/7 emergency roadside assistance and other after-sales services.
