Mitsubishi Space Wagon Philippines Overview

The Mitsubishi Space Wagon came in different names: Chariot, Expo, and Nimbus. The Space Wagon is an MPV or a multi-purpose vehicle offered by Mitsubishi from 1983 to 2003. The Space Wagon was based on the SSW concept car that was first introduced at the 23rd Tokyo Motor Show in 1979. It was named Chariot because of the chariots of the ancient Greek and Roman empires. The first generation Mitsubishi Space Wagon was launched during the early 1980s. The Space Wagon marched on to the next generation with a change in model during the early 1990s. It was launched with a 1.8L carbureted engine. In 1997, an updated version came out with electronic fuel injection with additional power to accommodate an automatic transmission. Presently, the Space Wagon is no longer in existence, however with its nonexistence came a number of modern MPVs, including Grandis from Mitsubishi which is its successor.

Launch

The Mitsubishi Space Wagon was produced from February 1983 to May 1991 where choices of power plants are available: 1.6L 4G32 to the 2.0L 4G63 petrol engine or the 1.8L 4D65T turbodiesel (from October 1984), partnered with a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission.

Exterior

The exterior features of the Mitsubishi Space Wagon feature a crisp style to showcase the classy and casual look of the said Mitsubishi vehicle. The short front corners feature a mask of boldness while the fully shaped engine hood adds more volume to the vehicle. On the side portion, it shows elegance, through a sloped wedge that promotes a spacious aura, and the wheelhouse and side garnish give an idea of dynamic performance.

At the rear, the balanced proportions showcase a look of stability and express the status of the Space Wagon. The rear lamp and the rear window allow a good view of the back portion. The front and rear extensions, side sill garnish, chrome-plated tailgate, and other parts are standard on the Exceed trim level.

Interior

The Mitsubishi Space Wagon is roomy, includes a dash-shift selector, and a flexible seat configuration. The instrument cluster adds dynamics and a sporty taste to the interior. The dash-shift selector provides more legroom and a comfortable walk-through aisle. Air conditioning and secondary controls are placed together in a passenger-friendly layout.

Technology & Safety Features

The Mitsubishi Space Wagon has standard anti-lock braking that prevents wheel lock during emergency braking thus keeping the vehicle stable and allowing the driver to have control over the vehicle. Also included are 15-inch disc brakes with 2-pot calipers in front. This gives stopping power and a good pedal response. It also has compound surface door mirrors for better maneuvering during parking.

Platform & Chassis

The Mitsubishi Space Wagon’s platform is based on a modern car with a front-wheel drive, transversely mounted engine. It comes with an all-independent suspension. Front disc brakes are standard while trailing drum at the rear.

Engine & Drivetrain

The dimensions and weights of the Mitsubishi Space Wagon are 4,585mm long, 1,775mm wide, 1,690mm tall, along with a 2,780mm wheelbase. The engine type is a 4G64 (GDI), in-line 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC that generates 163 hp and 231 Nm of torque.
