Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPH) announced that the long-awaited automatic version of the S-Presso has finally arrived.
The Suzuki S-Presso is now available with an AGS
When the company introduced the hatchback locally back in 2020, the model only had a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Prospective buyers wanted an automatic gearbox option, especially considering that global markets such as India and Sri Lanka offer a two-pedal S-Presso.
Now, the demand has been addressed as SPH is now accepting reservations for the 2023 Suzuki S-Presso with the brand’s AGS (Automated Gear Shift) technology.
The AGS works like an automatic gearbox but is built like a manual gearbox. It uses an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator to operate the shift and clutch instead of a traditional torque converter found in most automatic transmissions. One of the most significant advantages AGS promises is improved fuel efficiency.
The new powertrain setup looks to provide better fuel economy
Also new to the S-Presso is the use of a 1.0-liter K10C gasoline engine available in both the manual and AGS variants. While the power figures remain the same at 67 horsepower and 90 Nm of torque, the new mill is said to offer even improved fuel efficiency with the addition of a Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system and an Engine Automatic Start Stop (EASS) technology.
In terms of safety bits, the hatchback now gets Electronic Stability Program (ESP) on top of the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), rear parking sensors, and SRS dual front airbags.
Meanwhile, the AGS variant comes exclusive with a hill hold control. It is a driver assistance function that prevents the vehicle from reversing on a slope from a standstill. In turn, hill hold control gives drivers more time to step on the accelerator without rolling back.
The 2023 Suzuki S-Presso AGS is available with a price tag of Php 660,000. It is Php 40,000 more than the entry-level GL variant that uses a 5-speed manual transmission.
