Same topic: Old vs New: Spot the Differences

It gets subtle but visually impactful changes.

A year after its ASEAN debut, the facelifted version for the third generation 2023 Isuzu D-Max has finally arrived in the Philippine market.

The 2023 Isuzu D-Max

Being a facelift, it carries over a large portion of the D-Max's long list of features including the same powertrain. It does, however, sport a revised exterior look.

So how does it compare to the outgoing, pre-facelift Isuzu D-Max? Let’s find out via this comparison.

Isuzu D-Max Old vs New: Exterior

The biggest visual change on the 2023 D-Max is found on its front end. Particularly, the fang-line protrusions on its grille slats were shortened a fair bit. Plus, the said pieces now come in a new black two-tone color, while the old one was coated in a single color.

From the sides, the new model now comes with a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels. The design for these wheels is a much more conventional spoked look, whereas the old D-Max rode on a set of wheels that mostly covered up the brakes.

Also new to the 2023 D-Max are grey-colored overfenders which contrast with the truck’s body color. Its cargo extenders and front bumper guard also gained this new color scheme. The older model got grey overfenders, but those were a few shades lighter than the new ones.

For the most part, though, the silhouette of the 2023 D-Max remains unchanged. It still has the same curves and angles as the outgoing model, thus retaining the machoness that it is known for.

Lastly, the 2023 D-Max also gets the new Isla Gray color option for the LS-E and LS-A trims.

Step inside the 2023 D-Max and one will find the same exact cabin arrangement as the outgoing model.

Retained on the newer version is the same set of features which includes plenty of soft-touch surfaces, a 4.2 information display, 60:40 split folding rear seats, and leather or fabric seats depending on the trim.

The top-spec LS-E for the updated 2023 version still gets an automatic climate control system, a 10.1-inch touchscreen headunit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8-piece speaker system.

Driver amenities carried over to the new 2023 Isuzu D-Max LS-E include an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, and a remote engine start system.

Being a facelift of the current third-gen model, the D-Max's five-star safety rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program still applies to the 2023 version. The top-spec LS-E in particular, gets a whole host of safety features like blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control w/ stop & go function, etc.

Standard equipment for the LS-E, LS-A, and LT trims was also carried over from the old D-Max to the new 2023 model. Examples include anti-lock braking, stability control, brake assist, and a brake override system.

Isuzu D-Max Old vs New: Engine

Powering the new 2023 Isuzu D-Max LS-E and LS-A are the same powertrains found on the outgoing D-Max. These are the 3.0-liter 4JJ3-TCX turbodiesel paired with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox. At the most, the 3.0-liter engine for the D-Max still produces up to 187 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

The facelifted D-Max LS-E and LS-A trims still use the 3.0-liter 4JJ3-TCX engine

For those eyeing the 2023 Isuzu D-Max as their next ride, note that its price now ranges from Php 1,390,000 to Php 1,700,000 for the LS-A. The LS-E meanwhile, retails at Php 1,905,000. Note that the facelift changes only apply to the LS-A and LS-E.
