A couple of days ago on January 30, 2023, Nissan Philippines held a thanksgiving event to celebrate the several milestones it has achieved in 2022. One of the bigger announcements during the said event was shared by Nissan President Juan Manuel Hoyos, and it pertains to an upcoming price reduction for the LEAF electric vehicle (EV).

The said price reduction for the Nissan LEAF is connected to the new Executive Order on the tariffs for imported EVs for the Philippine market. To further clarify, Executive Order No. 12 imposes a “zero tariff rate” for imported EV models. It will then run for five years.
The LEAF is of course qualified for the aforementioned tariff modification, as it is indeed a fully electric-powered vehicle. Propelling it is an electric motor and a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery, capable of producing up to 148 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. Furthermore, it is brought into the country straight from the Oppama plant in Kanagawa, Japan.

By how much the LEAF’s price will be cut is still unknown for now. So for this, we’ll just have to wait for more news from Nissan Philippines. But by effectively having zero tariff rates, we can predict that it will be significant.
As for Nissan Philippines’ 2022 milestones that were celebrated during the event, there were the successful launches of the updated Urvan, Navara Calibre-X, as well as the LEAF.

During the same year, Nissan PH also brought into the country the all-new Kicks e-Power crossover, as well as the all-new Livina seven-seater MPV.
It was also back in 2022 when the brand rolled out the Blue Switch initiative, which was made possible with the aid of partnerships with both private and government stakeholders. This mainly concerns bringing in EVs to contribute to a “cleaner world and a sustainable society.”

With regards to what’s in store for Nissan PH in 2023, Hoyos mentioned that everyone can expect to see a “showcase of speed, excitement, and performance.”
