Considering that the current generation of the Mitsubishi Strada is over seven years old already, an all-new version should be in the works right now. So much so that the Japanese automaker appears to be doing a highway test run for the new midsize pickup truck under camouflage.

The highway test run was captured by the YouTube channel called TFLnow in Colorado, United States. Due to the heavy camouflage that covers the exterior styling of the truck, we cannot be sure of the make and model. But some hints suggest that the disguised vehicle is indeed the Mitsubishi Strada.
You will probably see the most prominent clue when you look at the test unit from the sides. The silhouette of the front end resembles the Montero Sport, which is essentially the same as the Strada. We can imagine thin daytime running lights (DRLs) sitting above the new mesh grille, all making up the brand’s Dynamic Shield fascia.

Another hint from the sides is the arch on the wheel fenders which look similar to the ones in the current generation. It is not roundish as some of the Strada’s pickup truck rivals, creating a rugged appeal. In addition, the tailgate with the taillights still looks a lot like the work of Mitsubishi’s design team.
No powertrain details have been revealed. Currently, the Mitsubishi Strada offered in the Philippines, with a starting price of Php 1,028,000, is powered by a 2.4-liter inline-4 MIVEC turbodiesel engine capable of generating 179 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. It can be paired to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, there’s a report that Nissan is looking to replace diesel engines on its trucks and SUVs with the e-Power technology. If it pushes through, future Strada models can also be equipped with Mitsubishi’s own version of hybrid power unit. But, do take note that nothing is official yet as of this writing.
Reports suggest that the next-gen Mitsubishi Strada is scheduled to make its debut next year. It is a strategic move from Mitsubishi considering that the current fifth-gen is already aging. Meanwhile, the next-gen Nissan Navara is expected to follow which will share the same platform with the Mitsubishi truck.
