The next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor is now out in the Philippines, retailing at Php 2,339,000. While it looks like it's a solid offering from Ford Philippines, some potential Filipino car buyers are looking for something different under the hood.
Next-Gen Ford Ranger Raptor Now in the Philippines! | Philkotse Quick Look
The current PH-spec 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor is powered by a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine that delivers 207 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. It is then connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The said power output can be considered decent if you compare it to other diesel engines offered in the local market. But, some are not that convinced since there’s a more potent engine for the next-gen Ranger Raptor–the 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 gasoline.
The V6 gasoline engine puts out way more horsepower and also comes with an increased torque pull. It is the power unit available for the Ranger Raptors sold in Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, North America, and Europe. It generates 392 hp and 583 Nm of torque, which is a significant power bump as compared to the diesel engine that the Philippine market currently has.
The stark difference in horsepower, which is 185 hp, is one of the reasons why there’s a clamor for Ford Philippines to offer the V6 gas engine. Some are even a bit disappointed that Ford PH opted to offer the next-gen Ranger Raptor with a diesel power unit.
The V6 engine is obviously the more potent power unit as compared to the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine. It can also give potential next-gen Ranger Raptor owners a more performance-driven experience considering the V6’s 392 hp and 583 Nm of torque.
So, why did Ford Philippines opt to offer the 2023 Ranger Raptor with a diesel engine? The answer to that is quite obvious, and there’s a great chance that you know the reason why.
The Philippines is, after all, still a diesel country. Bringing the next-gen Ranger Raptor with a diesel engine has a relatively more chance of catering to a larger market, which eventually leads to actual unit sales. But, if there’s a strong demand for the V6 gas, Ford PH might work its magic into offering the Ranger Raptor with the said engine.
