This might mean no Civic hatch for the Philippines.

Last month, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic debuted for the Philippine market. Like the global version, the Philippine-spec eleventh-generation Civic is more powerful, and it gained a sleeker, quieter exterior design.

With the said release, many Filipinos are understandably excited for the hatchback version of the Honda Civic. After all, it was available in Thailand, where the Philippines sources the Civic. That’s right, we refer to its availability in the Land of Smiles in the past tense as it was discontinued just recently.

Specifically, Honda Thailand has decided to stop the production and sale of the Honda Civic Hatchback entirely due to low demand.

Consistently, the sedan version of the said Honda model was outselling its hatchback counterpart by a ratio of 10 to one on average. In 2019 alone, Honda Thailand sold 28,259 units of the previous-gen Civic sedan, while only 1,843 units of the hatch were procured.

As a side note, other markets that source their Honda Civic hatchbacks from Thailand have had to switch to Japan in order to get the said Civic version. This is the case with Australia.

To sum it up, it looks like the chances of Honda Philippines bringing in a 2022 Honda Civic hatchback have gotten a lot dimmer. Currently, there are two versions of the eleventh-generation 2022 Honda Civic. There’s the FE 4-door sedan, and the FL 5-door hatchback model.

For the Philippine market, there are three variants of the all-new Civic, all of which are the FE 4-door sedan versions. Locally, these variants are powered by a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine capable of making up to 175 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque.

Like previous Civics, the new one still uses front-wheel-drive. It then uses a continuously variable transmission with paddle shifters for its manual mode.

All trims of the Philippine-spec Civic now have the Honda Sensing driver assist safety suite, and currently, they come with a price tag that ranges from Php 1,290,000 to Php 1,690,000.
