The Honda Civic with the e:HEV badge may be unfamiliar to our ears but the hybrid compact sedan model is making a name for itself, particularly in the auto safety scene. Over in Europe, the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) awarded the Civic e:HEV with an impressive 5-star safety rating.
The Honda Civic e:HEV scored five stars at the Euro NCAP safety test
With a total score of 33.9 out of 38 points in the Adult Occupant category, the Honda Civic e:HEV demonstrated its enhanced chassis built with new structural components. This helped improve the vehicle’s front, rear, and side collision protection.
The compact sedan is packed with safety technologies
The improved structure is complemented by a total of 11 airbags as standard. One of these is a front-center airbag, which is featured for the first time. It prevents a collision between the driver and front passenger as seen in Euro NCAP’s Honda Civic e:HEV side impact test video. Moreover, the improved structure also led the new Honda Civic to shine in the Child Occupant category, scoring 43 out of 49 points.
Honda aims to achieve zero road fatalities by 2050
Moving to the Vulnerable Road Users category, the hybrid sedan scored 44.4 out of 54 points. This score was delivered by the newly-designed front bumper beam safety plates. These absorb impact energy, reducing the risk of leg fractures and knee ligament damage for pedestrians in the event of a collision.
Lastly, a 13.4 out of 16-point score was posted in the Safety Assist category. According to Euro NCAP, the use of the latest Honda Sensing improved safety by detecting objects earlier and more accurately, including at night. This is made possible with the integration of sonar sensors and a wider 100-degree view camera.
Honda Civic e:HEV at Euro NCAP
It seems like we cannot get our hands behind the 5-star safety-rated Honda Civic e:HEV for now, as this model isn’t available locally. But Honda Cars Thailand discontinued the Civic RS in favor of the hybrid version earlier this year. Considering that the PH-spec Civic is sourced from there, we might see the safe and eco-friendly model in the local lineup one day.
