The Chinese compact sedan continues to rack up race victories.

Despite the influx of Chinese car brands in our market, the reliability of their products is still in question for many would-be car buyers. GAC Motor Philippines is out to change that perception, as its GA4 sedan wrapped up the 2022 Petron Kalayaan Cup with five trophies.

Another impressive finish for the GAC GA4 at the Kalayaan Cup Endurance Race Series

Held last June 12 at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga, the 12-hour endurance race saw the compact sedan dominate several categories as it completed no less than 279 laps around the circuit. The feat took 12 hours, two minutes, and 34.17 seconds, with the car logging a best time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 54 seconds at one point in the race.

GAC Motor Philippines Deputy CEO Brennan Lim led a team of drivers that brought the GA4 across the finish line despite punishing conditions for both man and machine. Their hard work resulted in podium finishes across multiple categories, which include:

  • 6 hours – Open A Champion
  • 6 hours – Open B Champion
  • 12 hours – Open A First runner-up
  • 12 hours – Open B First runner-up
  • Overall – First runner-up

The latest honors add to the GAC GA4’s string of impressive race finishes. It previously won championships at the 2019 Kalayaan Cup’s 4-hour and 12-hour Manufacturer’s Endurance Classes, along with finishing second overall at the 2021 edition. The GA4 also dominated the 2019 Bonifacio Cup’s 4-hour Endurance Championship in the Manufacturer’s Class and Open Category.

“The endurance race victories garnered by the GA4 since 2019 are an assurance that this compact offering, as well as other GAC vehicles, will be able to withstand the demanding conditions that their owners would subject them to in the coming years”, said Lim, adding that the latest wins area testament to the reliability and durability of GAC cars.

The GAC GA4 is offered in two powertrain options. One is a base 1.5-liter gasoline engine rated at 113 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the other is a 1.3-liter turbocharged mill delivering 136 horsepower and 202 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic.

It would be harder to underestimate Chinese cars now

Available convenience and safety features include a power sunroof, 8-inch color touchscreen monitor, four airbags, and a 360-degree surround view parking system.
