Motorists driving through EDSA will soon get some sort of relief as the southbound portion of the Kamuning flyover is about to reopen. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that the repair works on the flyover are already completed.
The flyover will be passable once again starting tomorrow
The DPWH announced that the EDSA Kamuning flyover southbound will be passable to motorists tomorrow, July 23, 2022, starting at 5 p.m. DPWH Quezon 2nd District Engineer Eduardo V. Santos confirmed this news and has said that the repair works on the flyover’s 527-meter stretch has been completed.
Santos noted that the agency is delighted that it was able to deliver on the 30-day timetable to fix the southbound Kaminung flyover.
“We are happy to report that we were able to deliver on the given 30-day timetable despite the intermittent rain showers experienced in the past weeks,” said District Engineer Santos
The EDSA Kamuning flyover southbound was closed last June 25 due to having large potholes that pose a threat to road safety, especially for those riding motorcycles. Some pieces of the flyover fell down to the underpass, making the issue alarming, and prompting the decision to close the flyover for repairs.
The said flyover was initially decided to be closed for only a week. But, after assessing the damage, the DPWH and the MMDA decided to close the EDSA Kamuning flyover southbound for a month.
The flyover was closed at 6:00 a.m. last June 25. All vehicles are not allowed to drive through the flyover including the EDSA Carousel buses, which were initially permitted to pass through it. All vehicles were advised to use the service road instead as repair works including the reconstruction of the damaged bridge diaphragm and the construction of a new bridge deck slab is being done.
Meanwhile, National Capital Regional Director Nomer Abel P. Canlas wants to evaluate other major bridges and flyovers around Metro Manila.
