Mitsubishi’s Xpander people-mover is riding high on the reputation of its Adventure AUV predecessor, enjoying brisk sales especially in the Philippine market. Three years after its launch in 2018, Mitsubishi Indonesia released a facelifted version of the MPV.

The exterior design is arguably even more polarizing than the original, although it does come with interior and suspension enhancements as well. For those of you who already find themselves falling head over heels with the makeover, be advised that the 2022 Xpander facelift will be ready for export to the rest of Southeast Asia within this month, starting with Thailand.
Reports say that the Thailand-spec version isn’t likely to stray too much from the one sold in Indonesia. The revised Dynamic Shield fascia with T-shaped LED headlamps and two-slat grille are certainly expected, along with the larger 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels.
The revamped interior is also anticipated for the Thai release, featuring the new steering wheel, leather trim, and floating-type 8-inch touchscreen apart from the upgraded climate controls. An electronic parking brake switch takes the place of the hand lever, which gives the center console a cleaner look.
The Thai release is expected to retain the features available in Indonesia
Other amenities that Thai customers can look forward to are a large center console tray and second-row armrest bottleholders, as well as Type A and Type C charging ports at the rear seats.
In terms of powertrain, the export version of the Xpander facelift will continue to run on the current 1.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine rated at 103 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. The only difference so far from the previous model is that the gearbox has been upgraded to a continuously variable transmission, coupled with a new exhaust gas recirculation system.
The CVT is expected to improve the Xpander's fuel economy
Some slight chassis upgrades were reportedly installed, in the form of retuned struts and dampers to improve ride quality. This accompanies the increase in the Xpander’s ground clearance, from 205mm to 225mm.
The Mitsubishi Xpander facelift is reportedly set for a March 2022 release in Thailand, which prompts the question of when our market will follow suit. Hopefully Mitsubishi Motors Philippines won’t take too long in bringing the refreshed Xpander here.
