Honda Cars Philippines has launched the all-new 2022 BR-V. This is the second-generation version of the said model, and a lot of exterior and interior improvements have been made. That said, it has catapulted Honda's MPV model as a more potent contender against its contemporaries.
The Honda BR-V: Old vs New
So, how does the newly launched 2023 Honda BR-V compare to the older, first-generation Honda BR-V?
2022 Honda BR-V Old vs New: Exterior
The first thing many of you will probably notice in comparing these two is the stark difference in design. Sure, the newer BR-V is still very much a family car, but it has gained a more macho and modern look.
The old Honda BR-V has halogen headlamps, and 16-inch wheels, whereas the new one now comes with LED headlamps and 17-inch wheels. The rear portion of the car now looks more elegant with its clean and uncluttered design, though it also received a faux rear skid plate to round-up that SUV look.

As for dimensions, the older model is 4,456mm long, 1,735mm wide, and 1,677mm in height. It also has a ground clearance of 201mm.
In comparison, the newer version has a length of 4,490mm, a width of 1,780mm, and a height of 1,685mm. Its ground clearance then clocks in at 220mm.
To sum it up, the all-new 2023 Honda BR-V is not only more modern looking, but it is also a bit larger than the first-generation model.
2022 Honda BR-V Old vs New: Interior
As with the older model, the new 2022 BR-V retains the seven-seater seating arrangement. It also gets a seven-inch headunit, which despite being similar to the old one, is new according to Honda. All trims of the new BR-V also come with automatic climate control, whereas the old one’s lower-spec models had manual air-conditioning.

The gauge cluster is also new as the new rectangular 4.2-inch TFT screen digital trip computer and notification system is now positioned in-between the two larger gauges. In the old model, the said screen is circular and is positioned to the left of the speedometer.
The biggest change on the new BR-V however, is the presence of Honda Sensing. This means that the new model is now kitted out with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, among others. These were not present on the older BR-V.

And lastly, the new model is also equipped with smart entry, walk-away automatic door locks, remote engine starting, and power-folding side mirrors. The old model had a more conventional push-button start and door locking system, and manual-folding side mirrors.
2022 Honda BR-V Old vs New: Engine
Under the hood, the older BR-V uses a 1.5-liter L15Z1 inline-4 gasoline mill. It can make up to 118 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. The old model's variants came with continuously variable transmission (CVT), which had a paddle-shifter manual-mode on the top-spec BR-V V top-spec trim.
In comparison, the new 2023 BR-V is powered by a 1.5-liter L15ZF inline-4 gasoline engine. It makes 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. It makes 1 horsepower more than the older engine, and it also gets a CVT for the S, V, and VX variants.
