The Hyundai i10 was originally offered as a five-door hatchback which replaced the Hyundai Atos in the brand’s line-up. In the Philippines, the Grand i10 was awarded Best Mini Car of the Year by the Car Awards Group for 2014–2015. Compact and fuel-efficient, the vehicle has been regarded as a practical car for city driving. Its newly redesigned fascia follows the Korean brand’s 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0' design philosophy. This revamped aesthetic extends to the cabin that boasts of more space than expected for a vehicle in this segment. Currently offered is the latest generation Hyundai i10 Grand in three different variants which are Motion, Fluid, and Fluid AT. The models are powered by either a 1.0-liter inline-three and a 1.2-liter inline-four gasoline engine.
Launch
The Hyundai i10 was first produced in 2007 followed by its second generation which was presented in August 2013 and released in the beginning of 2014. The first-generation hatchback first arrived in the Philippines in 2011.
Three years later, the Hyundai Grand i10 was released in July 2014. Following its success is a facelifted model of the i10 Grand which was launched at the 2017 Manila International Auto Show.
Exterior
The latest generation Hyundai i10 Grand boasts of a well-proportioned and modern aesthetic that now carries the Korean brand’s 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0' design language evident on its newly redesigned front fascia flanked with LED headlamps.
The front bumper has been restyled as well with a bigger front air intake similar to the Elantra’s, and Hyundai’s new cascading hexagonal fog lights that come with LED daytime running lights for top-range models.
The rear comes with a revamped dual-tone bumper flanked with newly modified tail light clusters and large reflectors. Completing the sportier, modernized look are 14-inch alloy wheels.
Interior
There are more style and functionality inside the Hyundai i10 Grand with its generous spaces, numerous storage spaces and cubbyholes, and a newly designed interior. While the cabin is composed mostly of hard plastics, the matte finish elevates the dual-tone red and black interior to a more sophisticated vibe. The instrument panel is simple and clean, in which the controls are easy to reach. Large, well-bolstered seats wrapped in fabric give an extra layer of comfort for all passengers. The Grand i10's first row seats also adjust for height.
Technology & Safety Features
The Hyundai Grand i10’s entertainment system comes in two forms, depending on the variant. Lower trim levels are furnished with 2-DIN radios while top-range models are equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Most of the new additions to the safety package are delivered with higher trim variants including an automatic climate control system and reverse parking camera. Hyundai also introduced the Front Collision Warning System (FCWS) and the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) on the latest Grand i10. The FCWS provides notifications of road hazards while the LDSW alerts the driver if they are maneuvering towards the border of a lane.
Platform & Chassis
The 4-door hatchback runs on McPherson struts in front and a coupled torsion beam axle at the rear. Stopping power effectively comes from front discs and rear drums.
Engine & Drivetrain
There are two engine options for the Hyundai Grand i10- the 1.0-liter inline-three and the 1.2-liter inline-four, both of which run on gasoline and have been carried over from the previous generation models. The former puts out 65 hp and 94 Nm of torque while the latter delivers 86 hp and 120 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, while there is an option to have a 4-speed automatic transmission. Either way, power is sent to the front wheels.
