Mitsubishi Montero Sport Financing: How much do you need to buy one?

Updated Nov 16, 2021

What Mitsubishi’s midsize SUV will cost you at the dealership.

Say what you will about the Montero Sport. Good or bad, it’s still the king of Mitsubishi’s current local lineup as the curtain drops on the Pajero’s 37-year run. Built on the same platform as the Strada pickup, the Montero Montero 2021 had always served as the more affordable alternative to its bigger SUV sibling.

The Montero Sport has taken over the Pajero's throne

Mitsubishi’s midsize SUV is currently on its third iteration, with a facelift enhancing its futuristic design and offering a more impressive tech loadout than ever. If you’re seriously considering getting one, whether for yourself or as the family ride, here’s your chance.

Montero Sport GLX 2.4 4x2 MT

The entry-level Montero Sport variant comes standard with Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield 2.0 fascia, incorporating redesigned LED headlamp and foglamp clusters flanking a revamped grille. Multi-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels mark the exterior corners, which contribute to its 218mm ground clearance.

There’s room for up to seven occupants in the cabin, while drivers get to work with a white-lit instrument panel. The LCD touchscreen comes with a DVD player with USB and Bluetooth for connectivity. Propulsion comes in the form of a 2.4-liter MIVEC Clean Diesel engine packing 179 hp and 430 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual. Standard safety features include dual airbags, seatbelts on all three rows, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution.

The Montero Sport GLX comes in at Php 1,568,000, amounting to 36 monthly payments of Php 43,854 on a 20 percent downpayment or Php 313,600. Doubling the cash outlay to 40 percent or Php 627,200 lowers the bill to Php 32,890, while extending the pay period to 48 months costs just Php 26,470 monthly.

Moving up to the GT 4x2 trim level adds a rear spoiler and 18-inch two-tone alloys on the outside. Customers get an electronic parking brake, with a Smart Display LCD Audio touchscreen featuring built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A total of six speakers pump out the tunes, while second-row passengers have access to two USB ports.

There's room to spare for cargo, even with all seats occupied

The powertrain now gets an 8-speed automatic transmission with Sports mode via paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Safety has been upgraded, with Active Stability and Traction Control, Trailer Stability Assist, Multi-Around Monitor, and six airbags.

Priced at Php 1,928,000, the Montero Sport GT 4x2 can be had with a 30 percent downpayment or Php 578,400, which translates into 48 monthly payments of Php 37,972. A longer 60-month contract carries an amortization amount of Php 32,534, while increasing the downpayment to 50 percent or Php 964,000 results in a monthly payable of Php 23,238.

The range-topping GT 4x4 brings a hands-free power lift tailgate for convenience in loading cargo. For the cabin, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror is standard, as is an 8-inch full LCD instrument meter display. An accompanying Mitsubishi Smartphone App lets users operate the tailgate remotely, view vehicle information, and even locate the SUV in a parking lot.

All Montero Sport units run on a 2.4-liter MIVEC Clean Diesel mill

This is the only Montero Sport trim level offering the tested Super Select 4WD-II drivetrain with Off-Road Mode. Driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind-Spot Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Seven airbags protect occupants on board.

The Montero Sport GT 4x4 is priced at Php 2,298,000. On a downpayment of 20 percent or Php 459,600, it carries 36 monthly payments of Php 64,270 each. Doubling the cash payment to 40 percent or Php 919,200 means a recurring bill of Php 38,794 for 48 months, or Php 33,237 on a 60-month contract.
