2021 Toyota Hilux Philippines Quick Look: Subtle changes that matter

Last September 2020, the new Toyota Hilux officially made its debut in the Philippines. The top-spec variant dubbed the Conquest comes with a bold and aggressive exterior design. It is also equipped with a 2.8-liter diesel engine that can put out 201 hp and 500 Nm of torque.

In Europe, the top-spec Hilux variant is being marketed as the Invincible X. It has the same look and similar power unit to the one we have here in the Philippines. As such, the new Hilux already has a commanding stance and notable power output to boast off.

However, Toyota Europe wanted to make the Hilux an even better pickup truck that could deliver greater off-road capabilities. To be able to do this, Toyota Europe teamed up with Arctic Trucks, which is an off-road engineering company. The partnership of the two companies gave birth to the Hilux AT35, a truck that can rival the Ford Ranger Raptor.

The Toyota Hilux AT35 gets new and updated features such as an increased ground clearance of 65mm. The automaker added that the Hilux’s approach and departure angles have increased by nine and three degrees, respectively.

The black 17-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tires add to the Hilux's aggressive appeal

Toyota and Arctic Trucks were able to achieve that by adjusting the Hilux’s frame, inner arches, and bodywork. Moreover, the Toyota Hilux AT35 is fitted with a set of 17-inch Arctic Trucks alloy wheels wrapped with 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain tires. The Hilux is also equipped with an Arctic Trucks Bilstein performance suspension system. This gives the truck more suspension lift. In addition, the Hilux AT35 features a modified front and read differentials that are said to deliver a more optimized torque and drivability.
