Toyota PH adds tech, implements price increase to MY 2022 Fortuner

Toyota Motor Philippines wants to keep the model fresh.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has had the second-generation Fortuner since 2016. While the midsize SUV is certainly no slouch in the market, the carmaker doesn’t believe in resting on its laurels, especially in the hotly contested midsize SUV category.

Toyota Motor Philippines is keen on maintaining its position as the market leader by bolstering the Fortuner's features

That said, it might sound counterproductive for TMP to release adjusted (read: higher) prices for its Fortuner range, specifically the Q and LTD trim levels. As a report by Carguide.ph explains, this comes on account of added on-board tech which should enhance the customer experience, especially with reports of the Fortuner GR Sport arriving to the local market soon.

Dual-zone front climate control makes an appearance for both the Q and LTD grades, enabling the driver and front passenger to have separate temperature settings for individual comfort. The feature is also available on the V variant, which maintains its current price tag.

The current climate control unit will be upgraded to have dual-zone settings for front occupants

A power tailgate with bumper-mounted sensor will now be standard on the LTD, giving owners a helping hand (or foot) when opening the rear hatch while their hands are occupied with groceries or luggage. Users should get a ‘kick’ out of this feature.

Acknowledging that Fortuner users keep up with the latest mobile gadgets, the Fortuner LTD offers USB Type-C charging ports for rear occupants. This will shorten charging times for passengers even on long journeys.

Users will be able to open the tailgate even with their hands full

The LTD variant will also get updates to its Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver-assist technologies, with the addition of Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitor, the latter complementing the 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor camera array.

As mentioned, the base G and mid-range V trims retain their respective prices, while the Q and LTD come with added premiums for the new amenities:

  • Toyota Fortuner Q 2.8 4x2 AT – Php 2,018,000
  • Toyota Fortuner LTD 2.8 4x2 AT – Php 2,280,000
  • Toyota Fortuner LTD 2.8 4x4 AT – Php 2,440,000

If the Fortuner’s new features pique your interest, you can find out more from your nearest Toyota dealer.
