If you’re a bloke or gal who observes the automotive industry with keen interest, then you’ll have concluded that car platform sharing is nothing new, and is very common in this industry nowadays.
This time, you can add the next-generation Nissan Navara to that long list of platform shared models, as it has been confirmed by Ashwani Gupta, the Nissan Chief Operating Officer, that it will be sharing a platform with the Mitsubishi Strada, which is also known as the Triton in other markets.

Ashwani Gupta was also a COO for Mitsubishi
To further elaborate, here’s what Mr. Ashwani Gupta said during a press conference:
“As we know that Mitsubishi is very strong in the pick-up which is Triton, and now we are working very closely with Mitsubishi to use the common powertrain, common transmission, but also to have common modules on the next Triton and next Navara.”
Is this a surprising development? Not exactly.
We saw this coming
Teased on the “Nissan Next: From A to Z” video together with several next-generation Nissan models including the upcoming Z Car, the next-gen Navara is a sign that the “Leader-Follower Scheme” that we’ve talked about before, is now initiated.
NISSAN NEXT: From A to Z
The said scheme is an on-going initiative by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance to improve its competitiveness in the global market, as well as its profitability. It works by assigning “leaders” to a certain region, which, in relation to our country, a member of the ASEAN, would be Mitsubishi.
Also note that another probable sign of the new Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance initiative is that several of new Nissan models here in the Philippines might also be built in the Mitsubishi Motors Philippine Corporation’s facilities.
In the future, we can also expect that the aforementioned Alliance members present here in the country will be sharing other resources like training facilities, logistics facilities, etc.

What can we expect from the next-gen Navara?
If we had to guess, the next-gen Nissan Navara will still retain a lot of identifiable Nissan characteristics like the “V-Motion” grille and other exterior design cues.
Due to sharing the same mechanical parts however, the next-gen Navara might have an identical driving feel and handling characteristics with the current Mitsubishi Strada.
With regards to how the upcoming Navara looks like, all we have for now is this silhouette
We’ll leave it up to you if that’s a desirable quality or not, but we do know that the Strada as it is today is quite a capable pickup truck, with a reasonable Mitsubishi Strada price level.

The Nissan Navara got its name from a region in Northern Spain, the Navarre. Its first-generation model was released in 1997 and got a facelift in 2000, while the second generation was unveiled in 2004 featuring a redesigned compact body with the Nissan F-Alpha platform.
And now, Nissan Philippines introduced the facelifted model of the third-generation model of the midsize pickup truck this 2025. Nissan Navara Exterior
The biggest visual change on the 2025 Navara is found on the front end. It gains a larger grille, a more angular front bumper, and a new pair of quad LED headlights. Looking at the new front end, especially on the top-spec Pro-4X, reminds us of the Nissan Titan for the American market. Moving on towards the rear, the midsize pickup truck gains a more modern-looking tailgate. The taillights feature a revamped design that features a C-shaped LED lighting element. In terms of style, the Pro-4X is clearly the most imposing with its black-colored grille and trim pieces. For an additional splash of color, this trim also receives orange accents found on the over-fenders, as well as the faux-recovery hooks on the plastic skid plate.
Nissan Navara Interior
When the facelift model was introduced in the Philippines, much of the interior remained the same as compared to the outgoing model. The door cards are a combination of soft and hard surfaces, but the dashboard is still mostly made out of textured, sturdy plastic. Zero gravity-type seats are installed in the cabin with the VL and PRO-4X variants utilizing leather, while the lower-trim VE and EL variants come with fabric.

Braking is assisted by ventilated discs at the front and drums at the rear.
It is built for the off-road
We happen to put the Japanese car brand's pickup truck to the test by driving it on the famous Paoay Sand Dunes in the Philippines. The truck's stability and control are outstanding, especially with the use of its 4x4 system complemented with a differential lock for seamlessly riding through steep and uneven roads.
Engine & Drivetrain
Making its return for the Nissan Navara Philippines’s midcycle refresh is the 2.5-liter YD25 inline-4 turbodiesel engine. Of note, there are two tunes for this engine. For all the variants except the EL, the said engine can make up to 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, while the EL’s 2.5-liter mill makes a bit less at 163 horsepower and 403 Nm of torque.
