The automaker beefs up two of its best-sellers.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is keen on maintaining its top-dog status among the country’s automakers, which is why it is introducing equipment upgrades to two of its best-selling models, the Hilux midsize pickup and Fortuner midsize crossover.

Toyota Hilux GR Sport and Fortuner GR Sport

Additional features are now available on both the Toyota Hilux and Fortuner

The 2023 Hilux GR Sport variant now comes with rear air-condition vents, in response to public demand. The top-spec option also offers Toyota Safety Sense (TSS), including pre-collision alert and braking, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot indicators with rear cross-traffic alert.

Color choices for the Hilux GR Sport continue to be limited to three, namely Emotional Red, Attitude Black Mica, and Super White II.

The range-topping Hilux GR Sport now comes with Toyota Safety Sense

This doesn’t mean that the rest of the range is left behind. The base Hilux E, for instance, now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Customers stepping up to the Hilux G will find that it offers a bedliner and tailgate assist feature as standard. The Hilux Conquest also gets most of the features available on TSS, except for blind-spot indicators and rear cross-traffic alert.

TMP is discontinuing three color options (Nebula Blue Metallic, Orange Metallic, and Crimson Spark Red), replacing them with Oxide Bronze Metallic and Dark Blue Mica specifically for the Conquest.

Moving on to the Fortuner, LED exterior lighting will now be offered throughout the lineup. This includes bi-beam headlamps with daytime running lights, fog lamps, and rear combination lamps. Standard on all trim levels except the G are 18-inch alloy wheels, with the LTD and GR Sport rendered in a machine cut finish.

Paddle shifters and a 360-degree camera array are included on the Fortuner V variant upwards. An auto-dimming rear view mirror, 8-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert will also be offered starting on the Q trim level upwards. TSS will also make its way to the Fortuner Q, LTD, and GR Sport.

As a result of the added features, TMP has recently implemented price adjustments on the Hilux and Fortuner, among other models in its lineup

The most significant revolutionary jump of the Hilux happened in 2004 when the seventh generation of the model was introduced. It was the first 21st-century iteration of Toyota's pickup. It is also the first generation to ride on Toyota’s new Innovative Multi-purpose Vehicle architecture. It provided improved safety, better ride comfort, modern D-4D diesel engines, more interior space, and a more modern aerodynamic body.

The current 8th generation offers a more refined and stylish design than its predecessor, but the tradition of being a tough pickup continues. It received a much-awaited refresh in 2020.
