The sportier Hilux got a P49K price bump.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is entering the month of September with a price increase on its pickup truck entry, the Hilux. With the updated pricing, the top-of-the-line model with the GR Sport badge has now breached Php 2 million.

The Toyota Hilux GR Sport (GR-S) now retails at Php 2,039,000, with a Php 20,000 option to go for the Emotional Red paint. That is a Php 49,000 difference as compared to the outgoing price tag of Php 1,990,000. This makes the Toyota pickup the priciest in its respective segment, excluding the Ford Ranger Raptor which was recently removed from the company’s website.

Aimed to provide the sporty nature of Gazoo Racing (GR), the Toyota Hilux GR-S comes with variant-exclusive bits in the exterior and interior. On the outside, the truck has 18-inch GR Design alloy wheels, wide body-colored overfenders, a gloss black sports bar, and a fin-type antenna.

Inside, the top-spec model is the only variant with leather and suede seats with red accents for a sportier-looking finish. The driver’s seat got upgraded with an 8-way power-adjust function, while the front passenger’s seat still has a 4-way manual adjustment. Other GR-S exclusive features include a GR-badged leather steering wheel, paddle shifters, and red stitching on the door trims.

Under the hood, the Hilux GR-S uses the same power unit as the Conquest 4x4 variants which is a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbodiesel engine with 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. It comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, as well as suspension upgrades that provide better stability.

The GR-S-badged Hilux is now around the P2-million mark

Take note that the updated price isn’t a result of the return of excise taxes on pickup trucks as this has not yet been signed into law as of this writing. For your reference, here is the old and new prices of the Toyota Hilux:

The most significant revolutionary jump of the Hilux happened in 2004 when the seventh generation of the model was introduced. It was the first 21st-century iteration of Toyota's pickup. It is also the first generation to ride on Toyota’s new Innovative Multi-purpose Vehicle architecture. It provided improved safety, better ride comfort, modern D-4D diesel engines, more interior space, and a more modern aerodynamic body.

The current 8th generation offers a more refined and stylish design than its predecessor, but the tradition of being a tough pickup continues. It received a much-awaited refresh in 2020.
