These carry an exclusive design as well as an incredibly efficient powertrain.

If there was ever any doubt over Geely’s commitment to electric vehicles (EVs), now would be a good time to drop them altogether. The Chinese automaker recently launched a sub-brand that will cater to customers of the premium EV segment.

Geely Yinhe launch

Geely recently launched the Yinhe (Galaxy) line of premium EVs for the Chinese market

Named Yinhe or ‘Galaxy,’ the new product range made its debut at a flagship Geely event in Hangzhou, China. Foremost among the offerings is the L7 plug-in hybrid SUV, accompanied by a fully electric concept model simply called the Yinhe Light.

Geely says the Yinhe line will introduce seven new vehicles in the next two years. Four of these will be long-range hybrid models including the L7 and L6 sedan, with expected deliveries in the second and third quarter of 2023, respectively. The rest will be marketed under the pure electric Yinhe E series, led by the upcoming Yinhe E8 slated for delivery in the fourth quarter of this year.

All Yinhe models will bring many technological innovations, starting with a smart electrified architecture and a futuristic design language exclusive to the line. It will also be the first to use Geely’s Aegis battery safety system; not only does this protect the battery against physical impacts, but also predicts and preempts thermal runaway situations to increase battery life by as much as 20 percent.

Yinhe L7

The Yinhe L7 PHEV SUV can reportedly reach 1,370 kilometers on a single tank

Running the show on board is the Yinhe N-Operating System, using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 vehicle chip. According to Geely, the Yinhe N OS has a system startup time of just 0.5 seconds, the fastest in its class. Access to Geely satellites results in centimeter-accurate positioning to assist in intelligent driving features.

Also launched during the event was the latest generation of Geely’s NordThor hybrid powertrain. Geely says that the NordThor 8848 engine uses the industry’s first predictive energy management system, allowing it to reach a peak thermal efficiency of 44.26 percent and improved fuel economy of up to 15 percent.

This is paired with a NordThor 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), yielding a zero to 100 km/h time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h on the Yinhe L7. Geely boasts that the L7 can achieve 1,370 kilometers on a single tank in hybrid driving scenarios.

L7 and Yinhe Light

Nothing much was revealed about the Yinhe Light concept EV in the background

For now, Geely will likely offer the Yinhe range exclusively to the Chinese market along with its Geometry and Zeeker series. Note that the brand has other EVs from Lotus, Polestar, and Volvo for international markets.
