How does TMP’s best-selling sedan compare to its rivals in terms of size?

The Toyota Vios is one of the most popular sedan models in the Philippines. From its introduction way back in the early 2000s, it has continuously topped the sales charts in the subcompact sedan segment.

So how do the Toyota Vios’s dimensions compare against its rivals in the Philippine market? To find out, we’ll be comparing this well-known Toyota sedan against the likes of the Honda City, Suzuki Ciaz, Nissan Almera, Mitsubishi Mirage G4, and the Hyundai Accent.

Toyota Vios: Summary of specs

Before listing off its competitor’s details, let us first talk about the Toyota Vios’ specs. Starting off, the Vios’ length spans 4,425mm. It also has a width of 1,730mm, and a height of 1,475mm. The top-spec Vios GR-S however, has a longer length of 4,467mm due to having an alternate front bumper. The said sedan also has a ground clearance of 133mm, and a wheelbase length of 2,550mm.

For additional information, the Vios for the Philippine market uses two different engine options. These include a larger 1.5-liter engine, and a smaller 1.3-liter engine. Both are gasoline, and both are either paired with a continuously variable transmission or a five-speed manual gearbox depending on the variant.

At most, the smaller engine can produce up to 98 horsepower and 123 Nm of torque. The larger four-banger meanwhile is good for 106 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the car’s front wheels.

Depending on the variant, Toyota Vios’s tire size varies from 195/50 R16, 185/60 R15, and 175/65 R14. For those curious, the recommended Toyota Vios tire pressure rating is somewhere between 32-36 PSI. Consult your car’s manual for the exact figures.

Toyota Vios vs Honda City: Dimensions

The Honda City sedan comes with a length of 4,553mm, a width of 1,748mm, and a height of 1,476mm. Its wheelbase is 2,600mm long, and it has a ground clearance of 134mm.

This means that Honda’s subcompact sedan entry is a bit longer and wider than the Toyota Vios. It also has a longer wheelbase. Then again, the differences between their heights and ground clearance figures are negligible.

Toyota Vios vs Suzuki Ciaz: Dimensions

The Suzuki Ciaz

Suzuki Philippine’s Ciaz sedan is significantly longer than the Vios. That’s because it is 4,490mm long. It even has a longer wheelbase at 2,650mm. Besides that, both cars have an identical width and height. As of this writing, the Ciaz is no longer included in Suzuki Philippines' model lineup.

Toyota Vios vs Nissan Almera: Dimensions

Size-wise, the Nissan Almera is 4,530mm long, 1,740mm wide, and 1,460mm in height. It then has a wheelbase length of 2,620mm, and a ground clearance of 135mm.

Based on those figures, the Nissan model is longer, slightly wider, but shorter from the ground than the Vios. It also offers a longer wheelbase.

Toyota Vios vs Mitsubishi Mirage G4: Dimensions

The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is one of the subcompact sedans that is clearly smaller than the Vios. That’s because it has a length of 4,305mm, and a width of 1,670mm. It is however, much taller than the Toyota with its height of 1,515mm.

Its wheelbase spans 2,550mm, which is identical to the Toyota Vios. It also has significantly more ground clearance at 170mm.

Toyota Vios vs Hyundai Accent: Dimensions

The Hyundai Accent

The Hyundai Accent

The Hyundai Accent is nearly identical to the Toyota Vios in terms of size. That’s because this Hyundai-made subcompact has a length of 4,440mm, a width of 1,729mm, and a height of 1,475mm. It does have a longer wheelbase at 2,600, and slightly more in the way of ground clearance at 140mm.

Why compare dimensions?

In the case of sedans, size is important. Width dictates the amount of elbow room for occupants, and wheelbase length as well as overall length might also mean having less or more lengthwise room in the car’s interior.

Sedan buyers might also want exact size figures because the typical middle class Filipino home might have some size restrictions. Others might also be getting a subcompact sedan like the ones mentioned above to become a daily driver, and they might want to know if it’ll fit a tandem garage.
