Based on the facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander that made its Philippine debut last May 2022, the new Xpander Cross comes with a more aggressive design along with changes in the interior. It also aims to provide safer drivers with a new safety feature that is exclusive to the refreshed MPV.

Exterior

But first, let’s talk about the exterior. The 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross has a boxier-looking front fascia as compared to the standard model thanks to its new front bumper. It is also fitted with tri-projector LED headlamps and LED fog lamps, adding a more premium touch to the front.

Included in the sides are a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels, new wheel arches, and side body garnishes. The roof rails also add ruggedness to the side profile. Meanwhile, the rear end hosts exterior bits such as a new rear bumper and a redesigned tailgate garnish.

Interior

Right off the bat, the most noticeable upgrade over the standard Xpander is the new 4-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel design. Mitsubishi fans might find it familiar as it looks similar to the ones on the Montero Sport and Outlander. The tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel comes with controls for multimedia, phone, and cruise control functions.

Like the standard Xpander, the Xpander Cross has three seating rows that can accommodate up to seven passengers. As a 7-seater MPV, practicality is important. Mitsubishi installed a hidden storage compartment at the rear, as well as an undertray below the front passenger seat that can store wet items or a pair of shoes.

Other highlights of the interior include two-tone blue trim leather seats with Heat Guard technology, a horizontal axis design dashboard with soft-touch materials, and a digital AC display with a max cool button.

Tech & Safety

The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is equipped with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is paired with a six-speaker system including two tweeters for a fuller listening experience on the go. An 8-inch full digital instrument cluster is also a new feature in the Japanese MPV, which is different from the one in the standard Xpander.

As mentioned earlier, the vehicle comes with a new safety feature called Active Yaw Control (AYC), adapted from the Lancer Evolution series. This applies selective braking on the inside wheel during turns, resulting in improved cornering performance. Meanwhile, safety features such as dual SRS airbags, active stability and traction control, hill-start assist, and reverse camera are carried over.

Engine & Drivetrain

Powering the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is still the same 1.5-liter 4A91 inline-4 MIVEC gasoline engine found in the outgoing model. It is capable of generating 103 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. No changes were made to the drivetrain, which means that the vehicle is still propelled by the front wheels.

Despite the use of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the Indonesian market where the vehicle is sourced, the PH-spec model still uses a four-speed automatic gearbox.
