The recall is due to faulty engine management software.

Safety recalls are still bound to occur despite the efforts put up by carmakers to make their vehicles spotless. Recalls happen since cars are integrated with various components. That said, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is recalling its flagship sports coupe due to a safety issue with its oil/vacuum pump, which could affect the GR Supra’s braking assist feature.

The said safety recall on the Toyota GR Supra is due to faulty engine management software that could cause the oil/vacuum pump to be damaged under certain start conditions. As such, TMP is recalling the vehicle to fix the component that supplies vacuum for brake assistance.

The oil/vacuum pump can be potentially damaged in two ways. The first is when pressing the start/stop button two times in rapid succession; or when depressing the brake pedal very briefly while pressing the engine start/stop button. Of note, full mechanical braking is not affected but an increase in stopping distance could occur. The said scenario could increase the potential of a crash.
